Pastor de Hermas 17

1Dai-me ouvidos, ó filhos: criei-vos em muita simplicidade, inocência e castidade, por causa da misericórdia do Senhor, que fez gotejar sobre vós a sua justiça, para que fôsseis feitos justos e santos de toda a vossa iniquidade e depravação; mas não quereis descansar da vossa iniquidade.

1Give ear unto me, O Sons: I have brought you up in much simplicity, and guilelessness, and chastity, on account of the mercy of the Lord, who has dropped His righteousness down upon you, that ye may be made righteous and holy from all your iniquity and depravity; but you do not wish to rest from your iniquity.

2Agora, portanto, escutai-me, e tende paz uns com os outros, e visitai-vos mutuamente, e carregai os fardos uns dos outros, e não vos sirvais sozinhos das criaturas de Deus, mas dai delas abundantemente aos necessitados. Pois alguns, pela abundância de comida, produzem fraqueza na sua carne e assim corrompem a sua carne; enquanto a carne de outros, que não têm comida, se corrompe, porque não têm alimento suficiente. E por isso os seus corpos definham.

2Now, therefore, listen to me, and be at peace one with another, and visit each other, and bear each other’s burdens, and do not partake of God’s creatures alone, but give abundantly of them to the needy. For some through the abundance of their food produce weakness in their flesh, and thus corrupt their flesh; while the flesh of others who have no food is corrupted, because they have not sufficient nourishment. And on this account their bodies waste away.

3Esta intemperança no comer é assim prejudicial a vós que tendes abundância e não distribuís entre os que estão necessitados. Atentai ao juízo que há de vir. Vós, portanto, que estais em posição elevada, procurai os famintos enquanto a torre ainda não está acabada; pois depois que a torre estiver acabada, querereis fazer o bem, mas não achareis oportunidade.

3This intemperance in eating is thus injurious to you who have abundance and do not distribute among those who are needy. Give heed to the judgment that is to come. Ye, therefore, who are high in position, seek out the hungry as long as the tower is not yet finished; for after the tower is finished, you will wish to do good, but will find no opportunity.

4Atentai, portanto, vós que vos gloriais na vossa riqueza, para que os necessitados não gemam e os seus gemidos não subam ao Senhor, e não sejais deixados de fora com todos os vossos bens, além da porta da torre. Por isso digo agora a vós que presidis a igreja e amais os primeiros assentos: “Não sejais como os misturadores de drogas. Pois os misturadores de drogas levam as suas drogas em caixas, mas vós levais a vossa droga e veneno no coração.

4Give heed, therefore, ye who glory in your wealth, lest those who are needy should groan, and their groans should ascend to the Lord, and ye be shut out with all your goods beyond the gate of the tower. Wherefore I now say to you who preside over the church and love the first seats, “Be not like to drug-mixers. For the drug-mixers carry their drugs in boxes, but ye carry your drug and poison in your heart.

5Estais endurecidos e não quereis purificar os vossos corações e acrescentar à pureza de coração a unidade de propósito, para que tenhais misericórdia do grande Rei. Tomai cuidado, portanto, filhos, para que estas vossas dissensões não vos privem da vida. Como instruireis os eleitos do Senhor, se vós mesmos não tendes instrução? Instruí-vos, pois, uns aos outros e tende paz entre vós, para que eu também, de pé e alegre diante do vosso Pai, possa dar conta de todos vós ao vosso Senhor.”

5Ye are hardened, and do not wish to cleanse your hearts, and to add unity of aim to purity of heart, that you may have mercy from the great King. Take heed, therefore, children, that these dissensions of yours do not deprive you of your life. How will you instruct the elect of the Lord, if you yourselves have not instruction? Instruct each other therefore, and be at peace among yourselves, that I also, standing joyful before your Father, may give an account of you all to your Lord.”
