Pastor de Hermas 3

1“Mas Deus não está irado contigo por causa disso, e sim para que convertas a tua casa, que cometeu iniquidade contra o Senhor e contra vós, seus pais. E embora ames os teus filhos, contudo não advertiste a tua casa, mas permitiste que fosse terrivelmente corrompida. Por isso o Senhor está irado contigo, mas ele curará todos os males que foram feitos na tua casa. Pois, por causa dos seus pecados e iniquidades, foste arruinado pelos negócios deste mundo.

1“But God is not angry with you on account of this, but that you may convert your house, which have committed iniquity against the Lord, and against you, their parents. And although you love your sons, yet did you not warn your house, but permitted them to be terribly corrupted. On this account is the Lord angry with you, but He will heal all the evils which have been done in your house. For, on account of their sins and iniquities, you have been destroyed by the affairs of this world.

2Mas agora a misericórdia do Senhor teve piedade de ti e da tua casa, e te fortalecerá e te estabelecerá na sua glória. Só não sejas de ânimo brando, mas tem bom ânimo e consola a tua casa. Pois, assim como um ferreiro martela a sua obra e realiza o que deseja, assim a palavra justa de cada dia vencerá toda iniquidade.

2But now the mercy of the Lord has taken pity on you and your house, and will strengthen you, and establish you in His glory. Only be not easy-minded, but be of good courage and comfort your house. For as a smith hammers out his work, and accomplishes whatever he wishes, so shall righteous daily speech overcome all iniquity.

3Não cesses, portanto, de admoestar os teus filhos; pois sei que, se eles se arrependerem de todo o coração, serão inscritos nos Livros da Vida com os santos.” Tendo terminado estas palavras, ela me disse: “Queres ouvir-me ler?” Digo-lhe: “Senhora, quero.” “Escuta, então, e dá ouvidos às glórias de Deus.” E então ouvi dela, magnífica e admiravelmente, coisas que a minha memória não pôde reter. Pois todas as palavras eram terríveis, tais que o homem não poderia suportar.

3Cease not therefore to admonish your sons; for I know that, if they will repent with all their heart, they will be enrolled in the Books of Life with the saints.” Having ended these words, she said to me, “Do you wish to hear me read?” I say to her, “Lady, I do.” “Listen then, and give ear to the glories of God.” And then I heard from her, magnificently and admirably, things which my memory could not retain. For all the words were terrible, such as man could not endure.

4As últimas palavras, porém, eu as lembrei; pois eram úteis para nós e suaves.

4The last words, however, I did remember; for they were useful to us, and gentle.

5“Eis que o Deus dos poderes, que por seu poder invisível e forte e por sua grande sabedoria criou o mundo, e por seu glorioso conselho cercou de beleza a sua criação, e por sua forte palavra fixou os céus e lançou os fundamentos da terra sobre as águas, e por sua própria sabedoria e providência criou a sua santa igreja, que abençoou, eis que ele remove os céus e os montes, as colinas e os mares, e todas as coisas se tornam planas para os seus eleitos, a fim de lhes conceder a bênção que lhes prometeu, com muita glória e alegria, se apenas guardarem os mandamentos de Deus que receberam com grande fé.”

5“Lo, the God of powers, who by His invisible strong power and great wisdom has created the world, and by His glorious counsel has surrounded His creation with beauty, and by His strong word has fixed the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth upon the waters, and by His own wisdom and providence has created His holy church, which He has blessed, lo! He removes the heavens and the mountains, the hills and the seas, and all things become plain to His elect, that He may bestow on them the blessing which He has promised them, with much glory and joy, if only they shall keep the commandments of God which they have received in great faith.”
