1Ora, uma revelação me foi dada, meus irmãos, enquanto eu dormia, por um jovem de belo aspecto, que me disse: “Quem pensas que é aquela mulher idosa de quem recebeste o livro?” E eu disse: “A Sibila.” “Estás enganado,” diz ele; “não é a Sibila.” “Quem é, então?” digo eu. E ele disse: “É a igreja.” E lhe disse: “Por que então é ela uma mulher idosa?” “Porque,” disse ele, “foi criada antes de todas as coisas. Por isso é idosa.

1Now a revelation was given to me, my brethren, while I slept, by a young man of comely appearance, who said to me, “Who do you think that old woman is from whom you received the book?” And I said, “The Sibyl.” “You are in a mistake,” says he; “it is not the Sibyl.” “Who is it then?” say I. And he said, “It is the church.” And I said to him, “Why then is she an old woman?” “Because,” said he, “she was created first of all. On this account is she old.

2E por causa dela foi feito o mundo.” Depois disso tive uma visão na minha casa, e aquela mulher idosa veio e me perguntou se eu já tinha dado o livro aos presbíteros. E eu disse que não. E então ela disse: Fizeste bem, pois tenho algumas palavras a acrescentar. Mas quando eu terminar todas as palavras, todos os eleitos então as conhecerão por meio de ti. Escreverás, portanto, dois livros, e enviarás um a Clemente e o outro a Grapte.

2And for her sake was the world made.” After that I saw a vision in my house, and that old woman came and asked me, if I had yet given the book to the presbyters. And I said that I had not. And then she said, You have done well, for I have some words to add. But when I finish all the words, all the elect will then become acquainted with them through you. You will write therefore two books, and you will send the one to Clemens and the other to Grapte.

3E Clemente enviará o seu aos países estrangeiros, pois lhe foi concedida licença para fazê-lo. E Grapte admoestará as viúvas e os órfãos. Mas tu lerás as palavras nesta cidade, juntamente com os presbíteros que presidem a igreja.

3And Clemens will send his to foreign countries, for permission has been granted to him to do so. And Grapte will admonish the widows and the orphans. But you will read the words in this city, along with the presbyters who preside over the church.
