Protoevangelho de Tiago 12

1E ela fez o púrpura e o escarlate e levou-os ao sacerdote.

1And she made the purple and the scarlet, and took them to the priest.

2E o sacerdote abençoou-a e disse: Maria, o Senhor Deus engrandeceu o teu nome, e serás bendita em todas as gerações da terra.

2And the priest blessed her, and said: Mary, the Lord God hath magnified thy name, and thou shalt be blessed in all the generations of the earth.

3E Maria, com grande alegria, foi a Isabel, sua parenta, e bateu à porta.

3And Mary, with great joy, went away to Elizabeth her kinswoman, and knocked at the door.

4E quando Isabel a ouviu, jogou fora o escarlate e correu à porta e abriu-a; e, vendo Maria, abençoou-a e disse: De onde me vem isto, que a mãe do meu Senhor venha a mim? pois eis que aquele que está em mim saltou e te bendisse.

4And when Elizabeth heard her, she threw away the scarlet, and ran to the door, and opened it; and seeing Mary, she blessed her, and said: Whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? for, behold, that which is in me leaped and blessed thee.

5Mas Maria tinha esquecido os mistérios de que o arcanjo Gabriel lhe falara, e olhou para o céu e disse: Quem sou eu, ó Senhor, para que todas as gerações da terra me bendigam?

5But Mary had forgotten the mysteries of which the archangel Gabriel had spoken, and gazed up into heaven, and said: Who am I, O Lord, that all the generations of the earth should bless me?

6E ficou três meses com Isabel; e dia a dia ia crescendo.

6And she remained three months with Elizabeth; and day by day she grew bigger.

7E Maria, tendo medo, foi-se para a sua própria casa e escondeu-se dos filhos de Israel.

7And Mary being afraid, went away to her own house, and hid herself from the sons of Israel.

8E tinha dezesseis anos quando esses mistérios aconteceram.

8And she was sixteen years old when these mysteries happened.
