Protoevangelho de Tiago 16

1E o sacerdote disse: Entrega a virgem que recebeste do templo do Senhor.

1And the priest said: Give up the virgin whom thou didst receive out of the temple of the Lord.

2E José desatou em lágrimas.

2And Joseph burst into tears.

3E o sacerdote disse: Dar-vos-ei a beber da água da prova do Senhor, e ele tornará manifestos os vossos pecados aos vossos olhos.

3And the priest said: I will give you to drink of the water of the ordeal of the Lord, and He shall make manifest your sins in your eyes.

4E o sacerdote tomou a água e deu-a a beber a José e o enviou à região montanhosa; e ele voltou ileso.

4And the priest took the water, and gave Joseph to drink and sent him away to the hill-country; and he returned unhurt.

5E deu a beber também a Maria e a enviou à região montanhosa; e ela voltou ilesa.

5And he gave to Mary also to drink, and sent her away to the hill-country; and she returned unhurt.

6E todo o povo se admirou de que o pecado não aparecesse neles.

6And all the people wondered that sin did not appear in them.

7E o sacerdote disse: Se o Senhor Deus não tornou manifestos os vossos pecados, tampouco eu vos julgo.

7And the priest said: If the Lord God has not made manifest your sins, neither do I judge you.

8E despediu-os. E José tomou Maria e foi para a sua casa, regozijando-se e glorificando o Deus de Israel.

8And he sent them away. And Joseph took Mary, and went away to his own house, rejoicing and glorifying the God of Israel.
