Protoevangelho de Tiago 22

1E quando Herodes soube que tinha sido enganado pelos magos, num acesso de fúria enviou assassinos, dizendo-lhes: Matai as crianças de dois anos para baixo.

1And when Herod knew that he had been mocked by the Magi, in a rage he sent murderers, saying to them: Slay the children from two years old and under.

2E Maria, tendo ouvido que as crianças estavam sendo mortas, teve medo, e tomou o menino, e envolveu-o em faixas, e pô-lo numa manjedoura de bois.

2And Mary, having heard that the children were being killed, was afraid, and took the infant and swaddled Him, and put Him into an ox-stall.

3E Isabel, tendo ouvido que procuravam por João, tomou-o e subiu à região montanhosa, e ficou procurando onde escondê-lo.

3And Elizabeth, having heard that they were searching for John, took him and went up into the hill-country, and kept looking where to conceal him.

4E não havia lugar de esconderijo.

4And there was no place of concealment.

5E Isabel, gemendo em alta voz, diz: Ó monte de Deus, recebe mãe e filho.

5And Elizabeth, groaning with a loud voice, says: O mountain of God, receive mother and child.

6E imediatamente o monte se fendeu e a recebeu.

6And immediately the mountain was cleft, and received her.

7E uma luz resplandecia ao redor deles, pois um anjo do Senhor estava com eles, velando por eles.

7And a light shone about them, for an angel of the Lord was with them, watching over them.
