Provérbios 23

1Quando te sentares para comer com algum dominador, presta muita atenção para o que estiver diante de ti;

1When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

2E põe uma faca à tua garganta, se tiveres muito apetite.

2And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

3Não desejes as comidas gostosas dele, porque são pão de mentiras.

3Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

4Não trabalhes exaustivamente para ser rico; modera-te por meio de tua prudência.

4Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

5Porás teus olhos fixos sobre aquilo que é nada? Porque certamente se fará asas, e voará ao céu como uma águia.

5Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

6Não comas o pão de quem tem olho maligno, nem cobices suas comidas gostosas.

6Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:

7Porque ele calcula seus gastos consigo mesmo. Assim ele dirá: Come e bebe; Mas o coração dele não está contigo;

7For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

8Vomitarias o pedaço que comeste, e perderias tuas palavras agradáveis.

8The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

9Não fales aos ouvidos do tolo, porque ele desprezará a prudência de tuas palavras.

9Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

10Não mudes os limites antigos, nem ultrapasses as propriedades dos órfãos;

10Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

11Porque o Defensor deles é poderoso; ele disputará a causa deles contra ti.

11For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.

12Aplica teu coração à disciplina, e teus ouvidos às palavras de conhecimento.

12Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

13Não retires a disciplina do jovem; quando lhe bateres com a vara, nem por isso morrerá.

13Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

14Tu lhe baterás com a vara, e livrarás a sua alma do Xeol.

14Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

15Meu filho, se teu coração for sábio, meu coração se alegrará, e eu também.

15My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

16Meu interior saltará de alegria quando teus lábios falarem coisas corretas.

16Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

17Teu coração não inveje aos pecadores; porém permanece no temor ao SENHOR o dia todo;

17Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

18Porque certamente há um bom futuro para ti, e tua expectativa não será cortada.

18For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

19Ouve, filho meu, e sê sábio; e conduz teu coração no caminho correto.

19Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

20Não esteja entre os beberrões de vinho, nem entre os comilões de carne.

20Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

21Porque o beberrão e o comilão empobrecerão; e a sonolência os faz vestir trapos.

21For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

22Ouve a teu pai, que te gerou; e não desprezes a tua mãe, quando ela envelhecer.

22Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

23Compra a verdade, e não a vendas; faze o mesmo com a sabedoria, a disciplina e a prudência.

23Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

24O pai do justo muito se alegrará; aquele que gerar o sábio se encherá de alegria por causa dele.

24The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

25Teu pai e tua mãe se alegrarão; aquela que te gerou se encherá de alegria.

25Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

26Meu filho, dá para mim teu coração, e que teus olhos prestem atenção em meus caminhos.

26My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

27Porque a prostituta é como uma cova profunda, e a estranha como um poço estreito.

27For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

28Também ela fica espreitando como um ladrão, e acrescenta transgressores entre os homens.

28She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.

29De quem são os ais? De quem são os sofrimentos? De quem são as lutas? De quem são as queixas? De quem são as feridas desnecessárias? De quem são os olhos vermelhos?

29Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

30São daqueles que gastam tempo junto ao vinho, daqueles que andam em busca da bebida misturada.

30They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

31Não prestes atenção ao vinho quando se mostra vermelho, quando brilha no copo e escorre suavemente,

31Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

32Pois seu fim é como mordida de cobra, e picará como uma víbora.

32At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

33Teus olhos verão coisas estranhas, e teu coração falará perversidades;

33Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

34E serás como o que dorme no meio do mar, e como o que dorme no topo do mastro.

34Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

35E dirás: Espancaram-me, mas não senti dor; bateram em mim, mas não senti; quando virei a despertar? Vou buscar mais uma bebida.

35They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
