Romanos 9

1Digo a verdade em Cristo, não minto, e minha consciência dá testemunho comigo pelo Espírito Santo,

1I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

2de que tenho grande tristeza e contínuo tormento em meu coração.

2That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

3Porque desejaria eu mesmo ser separado de Cristo em proveito dos meus irmãos, que são meus parentes segundo a carne;

3For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

4que são israelitas, e a quem pertencem a adoção como filhos, a glória, os pactos, a Lei, o culto, e as promessas;

4Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

5deles são os patriarcas, e deles, quanto à carne, é Cristo, que é sobre todos, Deus bendito eternamente, Amém!

5Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

6Não que a palavra de Deus tenha falhado; porque nem todos os que são de Israel são verdadeiros israelitas.

6Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

7Nem por serem descendentes de Abraão são todos filhos, mas: “Em Isaque será chamada a tua descendência”.

7Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

8Isto é, não são os filhos da carne que são os filhos de Deus; mas sim os filhos da promessa que são contados como descendência.

8That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

9Pois esta é a palavra da promessa: Aproximadamente a este tempo virei, e Sara terá um filho.

9For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.

10E não somente isso, mas também Rebeca, quando esteve grávida por intermédio de um só, Isaque, nosso ancestral

10And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

11(pois, como não eram ainda nascidos, não haviam feito bem ou mal, para que o propósito de Deus, segundo a escolha, continuasse; não pelas obras, mas por causa daquele que chama),

11(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

12foi dito a ela: O mais velho servirá o mais jovem;

12It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13como está escrito: “Amei Jacó, mas odiei Esaú”.

13As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

14Que diremos, então? Que há injustiça da parte de Deus? De maneira nenhuma!

14What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

15Pois ele diz a Moisés: “Terei misericórdia de quem eu tiver misericórdia, e me compadecerei de quem eu me compadecer”.

15For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

16Portanto, não depende daquele que quer, nem daquele que se esforça, mas sim, de Deus, que se compadece.

16So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

17Pois a Escritura diz a Faraó: “Para isto mesmo te levantei: para mostrar em ti o meu poder, e para que o meu nome seja anunciado em toda a terra”.

17For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

18Portanto, ele tem misericórdia de quem quer, e endurece a quem quer.

18Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

19Tu, então, me dirás: “Por que ele ainda se queixa? Pois quem resiste à sua vontade?”

19Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?

20Mas antes, quem és tu, ó, humano, para questionares a Deus? Por acaso a coisa formada dirá ao que a formou: “Por que me fizeste assim?”

20Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

21Ou não tem o oleiro poder sobre o barro, para da mesma massa fazer um vaso para honra, e outro para desonra?

21Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

22E se Deus, querendo mostrar a sua ira, e dar a conhecer o seu poder, suportou com muita paciência os vasos da ira, preparados para a perdição,

22What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

23a fim de fazer conhecidas as riquezas da sua glória nos vasos da misericórdia, que preparou com antecedência para a glória,

23And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

24que somos nós, aos quais ele chamou, não somente dentre os judeus, mas também dentre os gentios?

24Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

25Como também diz em Oseias: “Ao que era Não-Meu-Povo, chamarei de Meu-Povo; e a que não era Não-Amada, chamarei de Amada”.

25As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.

26E será que, no lugar onde lhes foi dito: “Vós não sois meu povo, Aí serão chamados filhos do Deus vivo”.

26And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

27Também Isaías clama acerca de Israel: “Ainda que o número dos filhos de Israel seja como a areia do mar, apenas o remanescente será salvo;

27Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

28porque o Senhor concluirá e executará brevemente a sentença em justiça; pois ele fará uma breve sentença sobre a terra”.

28For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

29E como Isaías predisse: “Se o Senhor dos Exércitos não houvesse nos deixado descendência, nós nos teríamos tornado como Sodoma, e como Gomorra teríamos sido semelhantes”.

29And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.

30Então, que diremos? Que os gentios, que não buscavam a justiça, alcançaram a justiça, mas a justiça que é pela fé;

30What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

31porém, Israel, que buscava a Lei da justiça, não alcançou a Lei da justiça

31But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.

32Por quê? Porque não a buscavam pela fé, mas sim, como que pelas obras da Lei; pois tropeçaram na pedra de tropeço,

32Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

33como está escrito: “Eis que ponho em Sião uma pedra de tropeço, e uma rocha que causa queda; e todo aquele que nela crer não será envergonhado”.

33As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
