Sabedoria de Salomão 10

1Ela guardou o primeiro homem formado, pai do mundo, que foi criado sozinho, e o levantou da sua queda,

1She preserved the first formed father of the world, that was created alone, and brought him out of his fall,

2e lhe deu poder para dominar todas as coisas.

2And gave him power to rule all things.

3Mas, quando o injusto se apartou dela na sua ira, pereceu no furor com que matou o seu irmão.

3But when the unrighteous went away from her in his anger, he perished also in the fury wherewith he murdered his brother.

4Por causa dele a terra foi submergida pelo dilúvio, e a sabedoria de novo a salvou, conduzindo o justo num lenho sem valor.

4For whose cause the earth being drowned with the flood, wisdom again preserved it, and directed the course of the righteous in a piece of wood of small value.

5Além disso, quando as nações foram confundidas na sua perversa conspiração, ela conheceu o justo e o conservou irrepreensível diante de Deus, e o guardou forte contra a sua ternura para com o filho.

5Moreover, the nations in their wicked conspiracy being confounded, she found out the righteous, and preserved him blameless unto God, and kept him strong against his tender compassion toward his son.

6Quando os ímpios pereciam, ela livrou o justo, que fugiu do fogo que desceu sobre as cinco cidades.

6When the ungodly perished, she delivered the righteous man, who fled from the fire which fell down upon the five cities.

7Da maldade delas ainda hoje dão testemunho a terra deserta que fumega, e as plantas que dão frutos que nunca amadurecem, e uma coluna de sal, erguida como memorial de uma alma incrédula.

7Of whose wickedness even to this day the waste land that smoketh is a testimony, and plants bearing fruit that never come to ripeness: and a standing pillar of salt is a monument of an unbelieving soul.

8Pois, desprezando a sabedoria, não somente sofreram o dano de não conhecer o bem, mas também deixaram ao mundo um memorial da sua loucura, de modo que as suas faltas não puderam ficar ocultas.

8For regarding not wisdom, they gat not only this hurt, that they knew not the things which were good; but also left behind them to the world a memorial of their foolishness: so that in the things wherein they offended they could not so much as be hid.

9Mas a sabedoria livrou das penas os que a serviam.

9But wisdom delivered from pain those that attended upon her.

10Quando o justo fugia da ira de seu irmão, ela o guiou por caminhos retos, mostrou-lhe o reino de Deus e deu-lhe o conhecimento das coisas santas; enriqueceu-o nas suas viagens e multiplicou o fruto das suas fadigas.

10When the righteous fled from his brother’s wrath she guided him in right paths, shewed him the kingdom of God, and gave him knowledge of holy things, made him rich in his travels, and multiplied the fruit of his labours.

11Contra a cobiça dos que o oprimiam, ela o assistiu e o enriqueceu.

11In the covetousness of such as oppressed him she stood by him, and made him rich.

12Defendeu-o dos seus inimigos, e o guardou dos que lhe armavam ciladas, e num duro combate lhe deu a vitória, para que soubesse que a piedade é mais forte que tudo.

12She defended him from his enemies, and kept him safe from those that lay in wait, and in a sore conflict she gave him the victory; that he might know that goodness is stronger than all.

13Quando o justo foi vendido, ela não o abandonou, mas o livrou do pecado; desceu com ele à cova,

13When the righteous was sold, she forsook him not, but delivered him from sin: she went down with him into the pit,

14e não o deixou nas prisões, até lhe trazer o cetro do reino e o poder sobre os que o oprimiam; quanto aos que o acusaram, mostrou que eram mentirosos, e deu-lhe glória eterna.

14And left him not in bonds, till she brought him the sceptre of the kingdom, and power against those that oppressed him: as for them that had accused him, she shewed them to be liars, and gave him perpetual glory.

15Ela livrou o povo justo e a descendência irrepreensível da nação que os oprimia.

15She delivered the righteous people and blameless seed from the nation that oppressed them.

16Entrou na alma do servo do Senhor, e resistiu a reis terríveis com prodígios e sinais;

16She entered into the soul of the servant of the Lord, and withstood dreadful kings in wonders and signs;

17deu aos justos a recompensa dos seus trabalhos, guiou-os por um caminho maravilhoso, e foi para eles abrigo de dia e luz de estrelas de noite;

17Rendered to the righteous a reward of their labours, guided them in a marvellous way, and was unto them for a cover by day, and a light of stars in the night season;

18fê-los passar o mar Vermelho e os conduziu através das muitas águas;

18Brought them through the Red sea, and led them through much water:

19mas afogou os seus inimigos e os lançou do fundo do abismo.

19But she drowned their enemies, and cast them up out of the bottom of the deep.

20Por isso os justos despojaram os ímpios, e celebraram, Senhor, o teu santo nome, e louvaram unânimes a tua mão, que pelejou por eles.

20Therefore the righteous spoiled the ungodly, and praised thy holy name, O Lord, and magnified with one accord thine hand, that fought for them.

21Porque a sabedoria abriu a boca dos mudos e tornou eloquente as línguas dos que não podem falar.

21For wisdom opened the mouth of the dumb, and made the tongues of them that cannot speak eloquent.
