Sabedoria de Salomão 4

1Melhor é não ter filhos e ter virtude; porque a sua memória é imortal, pois é conhecida de Deus e dos homens.

1Better it is to have no children, and to have virtue: for the memorial thereof is immortal: because it is known with God, and with men.

2Quando está presente, os homens a imitam, e, quando se vai, a desejam; e na eternidade triunfa coroada, tendo vencido no combate por prêmios imaculados.

2When it is present, men take example at it; and when it is gone, they desire it: it weareth a crown, and triumpheth for ever, having gotten the victory, striving for undefiled rewards.

3Mas a numerosa prole dos ímpios não prosperará, nem lançará raízes profundas de rebentos bastardos, nem assentará fundamento firme.

3But the multiplying brood of the ungodly shall not thrive, nor take deep rooting from bastard slips, nor lay any fast foundation.

4Pois, ainda que por algum tempo floresça em ramos, não estando firme, será sacudida pelo vento, e pela força dos ventos será desarraigada.

4For though they flourish in branches for a time; yet standing not last, they shall be shaken with the wind, and through the force of winds they shall be rooted out.

5Os ramos imperfeitos serão quebrados, e o seu fruto será inútil, verde para comer, e para nada servirá.

5The imperfect branches shall be broken off, their fruit unprofitable, not ripe to eat, yea, meet for nothing.

6Porque os filhos nascidos de leitos ilegítimos são testemunhas da maldade contra os seus pais, quando são examinados.

6For children begotten of unlawful beds are witnesses of wickedness against their parents in their trial.

7Mas o justo, ainda que seja surpreendido pela morte, estará em repouso.

7But though the righteous be prevented with death, yet shall he be in rest.

8Porque a velhice honrada não é a que dura muito tempo, nem se mede pelo número dos anos;

8For honourable age is not that which standeth in length of time, nor that is measured by number of years.

9mas a sabedoria é para os homens as cãs, e a vida imaculada é a velhice.

9But wisdom is the gray hair unto men, and an unspotted life is old age.

10Ele agradou a Deus e foi amado por ele; e, vivendo entre pecadores, foi trasladado.

10He pleased God, and was beloved of him: so that living among sinners he was translated.

11Sim, foi arrebatado depressa, para que a malícia não lhe mudasse o entendimento, nem o engano lhe seduzisse a alma.

11Yea speedily was he taken away, lest that wickedness should alter his understanding, or deceit beguile his soul.

12Porque o fascínio da maldade obscurece o bem, e a inconstância da concupiscência corrompe a mente simples.

12For the bewitching of naughtiness doth obscure things that are honest; and the wandering of concupiscence doth undermine the simple mind.

13Tendo chegado em pouco tempo à perfeição, completou uma longa carreira;

13He, being made perfect in a short time, fulfilled a long time:

14porque a sua alma agradava ao Senhor; por isso ele se apressou em tirá-lo do meio dos ímpios.

14For his soul pleased the Lord: therefore hasted he to take him away from among the wicked.

15O povo viu isto e não o entendeu, nem guardou no coração que a graça e a misericórdia estão com os seus santos, e que ele olha pelos seus escolhidos.

15This the people saw, and understood it not, neither laid they up this in their minds, That his grace and mercy is with his saints, and that he hath respect unto his chosen.

16Assim o justo que morreu condenará os ímpios que vivem; e a juventude depressa aperfeiçoada, os muitos anos da velhice do injusto.

16Thus the righteous that is dead shall condemn the ungodly which are living; and youth that is soon perfected the many years and old age of the unrighteous.

17Pois verão o fim do sábio, e não entenderão o que Deus decretou a seu respeito, nem para que o Senhor o pôs em segurança.

17For they shall see the end of the wise, and shall not understand what God in his counsel hath decreed of him, and to what end the Lord hath set him in safety.

18Vê-lo-ão e o desprezarão; mas Deus zombará deles; e depois serão um cadáver desonrado e um opróbrio entre os mortos para sempre.

18They shall see him, and despise him; but God shall laugh them to scorn: and they shall hereafter be a vile carcase, and a reproach among the dead for evermore.

19Porque ele os despedaçará e os lançará de cabeça para baixo, sem que possam falar; e os abalará desde os fundamentos, e serão totalmente assolados e estarão em dor; e a sua memória perecerá.

19For he shall rend them, and cast them down headlong, that they shall be speechless; and he shall shake them from the foundation; and they shall be utterly laid waste, and be in sorrow; and their memorial shall perish.

20E, quando fizerem a conta dos seus pecados, virão com temor, e as suas próprias iniquidades os acusarão face a face.

20And when they cast up the accounts of their sins, they shall come with fear: and their own iniquities shall convince them to their face.
