Sabedoria de Salomão 8

1A sabedoria se estende com força de uma extremidade a outra, e governa todas as coisas com suavidade.

1Wisdom reacheth from one end to another mightily: and sweetly doth she order all things.

2Amei-a e busquei-a desde a minha juventude; procurei tomá-la por esposa e me enamorei da sua formosura.

2I loved her, and sought her out from my youth, I desired to make her my spouse, and I was a lover of her beauty.

3Ela manifesta a sua nobreza por viver na intimidade de Deus; sim, o próprio Senhor de todas as coisas a amou.

3In that she is conversant with God, she magnifieth her nobility: yea, the Lord of all things himself loved her.

4Pois ela é iniciada nos mistérios da ciência de Deus e ama as suas obras.

4For she is privy to the mysteries of the knowledge of God, and a lover of his works.

5Se as riquezas são um bem desejável nesta vida, que há mais rico do que a sabedoria, que opera todas as coisas?

5If riches be a possession to be desired in this life; what is richer than wisdom, that worketh all things?

6E, se a prudência é que opera, quem, dentre todos os seres, é artífice mais hábil do que ela?

6And if prudence work; who of all that are is a more cunning workman than she?

7E, se alguém ama a justiça, os trabalhos dela são virtudes; porque ela ensina a temperança e a prudência, a justiça e a fortaleza, que são as coisas mais proveitosas aos homens nesta vida.

7And if a man love righteousness her labours are virtues: for she teacheth temperance and prudence, justice and fortitude: which are such things, as men can have nothing more profitable in their life.

8Se alguém deseja muita experiência, ela conhece as coisas antigas e conjetura com acerto as futuras; conhece as sutilezas dos discursos e sabe explicar os enigmas; prevê os sinais e os prodígios, e o que sucederá nas estações e nos tempos.

8If a man desire much experience, she knoweth things of old, and conjectureth aright what is to come: she knoweth the subtilties of speeches, and can expound dark sentences: she foreseeth signs and wonders, and the events of seasons and times.

9Por isso resolvi tomá-la para viver comigo, sabendo que ela seria minha conselheira nos bens e minha consolação nos cuidados e na tristeza.

9Therefore I purposed to take her to me to live with me, knowing that she would be a counsellor of good things, and a comfort in cares and grief.

10Por causa dela terei glória diante da multidão e honra entre os anciãos, ainda que eu seja jovem.

10For her sake I shall have estimation among the multitude, and honour with the elders, though I be young.

11Serei achado perspicaz no juízo, e serei admirado diante dos grandes.

11I shall be found of a quick conceit in judgment, and shall be admired in the sight of great men.

12Quando eu me calar, esperarão; quando eu falar, prestarão atenção; e, se eu falar longamente, porão a mão sobre a boca.

12When I hold my tongue, they shall bide my leisure, and when I speak, they shall give good ear unto me: if I talk much, they shall lay their hands upon their mouth.

13Além disso, por meio dela alcançarei a imortalidade e deixarei memória eterna aos que vierem depois de mim.

13Moreover by the means of her I shall obtain immortality, and leave behind me an everlasting memorial to them that come after me.

14Governarei os povos, e as nações me serão sujeitas.

14I shall set the people in order, and the nations shall be subject unto me.

15Tiranos terríveis temerão ao ouvir falar de mim; mostrar-me-ei bom entre o povo e valente na guerra.

15Horrible tyrants shall be afraid, when they do but hear of me; I shall be found good among the multitude, and valiant in war.

16Quando entrar em minha casa, repousarei com ela; porque a sua companhia não tem amargura, e a convivência com ela não tem tristeza, mas gozo e alegria.

16After I am come into mine house, I will repose myself with her: for her conversation hath no bitterness; and to live with her hath no sorrow, but mirth and joy.

17Considerando estas coisas em mim mesmo e ponderando-as no meu coração, que na aliança com a sabedoria está a imortalidade,

17Now when I considered these things in myself, and pondered them in my heart, how that to be allied unto wisdom is immortality;

18e que grande deleite é a sua amizade, e que nas obras das suas mãos há riquezas infinitas, e no convívio com ela, prudência, e na conversa com ela, boa fama, andei buscando como tomá-la para mim.

18And great pleasure it is to have her friendship; and in the works of her hands are infinite riches; and in the exercise of conference with her, prudence; and in talking with her, a good report; I went about seeking how to take her to me.

19Pois eu era um menino bem dotado, e recebi uma boa alma;

19For I was a witty child, and had a good spirit.

20ou antes, sendo bom, entrei num corpo sem mancha.

20Yea rather, being good, I came into a body undefiled.

21Mas, sabendo que não poderia possuí-la se Deus não ma desse, e já era sabedoria saber de quem vinha esse dom, dirigi-me ao Senhor e lhe supliquei, e disse com todo o meu coração:

21Nevertheless, when I perceived that I could not otherwise obtain her, except God gave her me; and that was a point of wisdom also to know whose gift she was; I prayed unto the Lord, and besought him, and with my whole heart I said,
