Testamento de Isaque 2

1E quando o Anjo disse isto, levantou-se do leito de Nosso Pai Isaque e partiu dele; e este olhou para ele, e ficou cheio de assombro pelo que ouvira e vira, e começou a dizer: Não verei a luz até que me peçam.

1And when the Angel said this he arose from the bed of our Father Isaac and departed from him; and he looked upon him and was filled with wonder at what he had heard and seen and began to say, I shall not see the light until they ask for me.

2E enquanto ele assim pensava, Jacó chegara à porta do aposento de seu pai; e o anjo lançara sobre ele um sono, para que não os ouvisse.

2And while he was thinking, Jacob had come to the door of the sleeping-place of his father: and the angel had cast slumber upon him that he should not hear them.

3E quando entrou no aposento de seu pai, disse: Pai, com quem falavas?

3And when he entered the sleeping-place of his father he said, Father, with whom wast thou talking?

4E seu pai Isaque lhe disse: Pareces ouvir-me, ó meu filho; enviaram ao teu velho pai para o tirar de ti, ó meu filho Jacó.

4And his father Isaac said to him, You seem to hear me, O my son; they have sent to thy aged father to take him from thee, O my son Jacob.

5Então ele lançou-se ao pescoço de seu pai, e chorou, e lhe disse: A minha força se foi de mim; deixar-me-ás órfão, ó pai, e hoje serei tido em nada?

5Then he fell on his father's neck and wept and said to him, My strength is departed from me, wilt thou make me an orphan, O father, and today I shall be of no account?

6E lançou-se ao pescoço de Nosso Pai Isaque e o beijou, e ambos choraram até ficarem esgotados e fatigados, enquanto Jacó dizia: Pai, irei contigo e não me apartarei de ti.

6And he fell on the neck of our Father Isaac and kissed him and they both wept until they were outworn and weary, while Jacob said, Father, I will go with thee and I will not part from thee.

7E ele lhe disse: Ó meu filho, isto não está em meu poder, ó meu filho, meu amado Jacó.

7And he said to him, O my son, this is not in my power, O my son and my beloved Jacob.

8Contudo, dou graças a Deus porque também tu te tornaste pai, e permanecerás até que peçam por ti, porque conheço o dia em que vieram ao mundo que passa.

8Nevertheless I thank God that thou also art become a father, and thou shalt remain until they ask for thee, because I know the day on which they came forth into the world that vanisheth.

9(Lacuna.) Como meu pai Abraão me disse, não posso desviar coisa alguma do decreto que está determinado para todo homem, e assim será, porque o que está escrito não será abalado.

9(A gap.) As my father Abraham told me, I cannot turn aside anything of the decree which is determined for every man, and so it shall be, because that which is written shall not be shaken.

10Todavia Deus sabe, ó meu filho, que o meu coração está aflito por ti, embora eu mesmo esteja alegre porque vou ao Senhor.

10Howbeit God knoweth, O my son, that my heart is grieved for thy sake, though I myself am glad because I go to the Lord.

11E agora serás firmado no Espírito; e afasta de ti este choro e esta lamentação.

11And now thou shalt be established in the Spirit; and put from thee this weeping and lamenting.

12Escuta, ó meu filho, para que eu te fale e te dê entendimento a respeito do primeiro homem, quero dizer, Nosso Pai Adão, que foi criado, a quem Deus criou com a sua mão, e a nossa mãe Eva.

12Hearken, O my son, that I may tell thee and give thee understanding concerning the first man, I mean our Father Adam, who was created, whom God created with His hand, and our mother Eve.

13Em verdade Abel, e Sete, e Nosso Pai Enoque, e Maalaleel, pai de Matusalém, e Lameque, pai de Jarede, e Enos, pai de nosso pai Noé, e seus filhos Sem, e Cão, e Jafé, e depois deles Finéias, e Cainã, e Noé, e Héber, e Reu, e Terá, e Naor, e meu Pai Abraão, e Ló, a todos estes a morte levou, exceto Nosso Pai Enoque, o único perfeito, que subiu ao céu.

13Verily Abel and Seth and our Father Enoch, and Mahalaleel the father of Methuselah, and Lamech the father of Jared, and Enosh the father of our father Noah, and his sons Shem and Ham and Japheth, and after them Phinehas and Cainan and Noah and Eber and Reu and Terah and Nahor and my Father Abraham and Lot’, these all death took away except our Father Enoch the only perfect one, who ascended to heaven.

14E daqui em diante doze poderosos sairão, e Jesus, o Messias, virá da tua semente, de uma virgem cujo nome é Miriã, e Deus habitará sobre ele até que se cumpram cem anos.

14And hereafter twelve mighty ones shall come forth, and Jesus the Messiah shall come of thy seed of a virgin whose name is Miriam, and God shall abide upon him till a hundred years be fulfilled.

15E Isaque jejuava o dia inteiro, sem quebrar o jejum até a tarde.

15And Isaac used to fast all the day, not breaking his fast until the evening.

16E oferecia sacrifícios por si mesmo e por todo o povo da sua casa, para a salvação das suas almas, e levantavam-se para a oração no meio da noite, e de dia ele orava a Deus.

16And he used to offer sacrifices for himself and for all the people of his household, for the salvation of their souls, and they used to rise up for prayer in the middle of the night, and in the day time he would pray to God.

17E fez isto por muitos anos, e jejuou por três períodos de quarenta dias, cada vez que voltava o jejum de quarenta dias, e não comeu carne nem bebeu vinho durante os dias da sua vida, e nunca tocou em fruta nem dormiu em leito, porque estava ocupado com a oração todos os dias e com a súplica diante de Deus durante toda a sua vida.

17And he did this for many years, and he fasted for three periods of forty days, every time the forty days’ fast came round, and he ate no flesh and drank no wine for the length of the days of his life, and he never touched fruit nor slept upon a couch, because he was occupied with prayer every day and with supplication before God for the length of his life.
