Testamento de Jacó 1

2E Deus abençoou nosso pai Jacó, e estabeleceu para ele um lugar apartado para que nele se recolhesse, oferecendo suas orações a Deus de dia e de noite; e o anjo o visitava, guardando-o, preservando-o e fortalecendo-o em todas as coisas.

2And God blessed our father Jacob, and appointed for him a place apart that he might withdraw into it, offering his prayers unto God by day and by night; and the angel was visiting him, keeping watch over him, preserving him, and strengthening him in all things.

3E Deus o abençoou, e o seu povo multiplicou-se em extremo na terra do Egito; pois no tempo em que descera ao Egito para ter com José, seu filho, seus olhos haviam se enfraquecido por causa de muito pranto e da dor de coração por José, seu filho.

3And God blessed him, and his people multiplied exceedingly in the land of Egypt; for at the time when he came down to Egypt unto Joseph his son, his eyes had grown heavy by reason of much weeping and sorrow of heart for Joseph his son.

4Mas, ao descer ao Egito, recuperou a vista quando contemplou o rosto de José, seu filho; e Jacó Israel lançou-se sobre o seu rosto, sobre o pescoço de José, seu filho, e o abraçou, chorando e dizendo: 'Morra eu agora, visto que contemplei novamente o teu rosto enquanto ainda vives, ó meu amado!'

4But when he came down to Egypt, he recovered his sight when he beheld the face of Joseph his son; and Jacob Israel fell upon his face, upon the neck of Joseph his son, and embraced him, weeping and saying: 'Let me die now, since I have seen thy face once more while thou art yet alive, O my beloved!'

5E José governava sobre todo o Egito; e Jacó habitou na terra de Gósen por dezessete anos, e envelheceu grandemente, estando farto de dias, e guardou todos os mandamentos e o temor do Senhor; e seus olhos estavam pesados de modo que não podia ver homem algum, pela grandeza da velhice.

5And Joseph was ruler over all Egypt; and Jacob dwelt in the land of Goshen seventeen years, and grew very old, being full of days, and kept all the commandments and the fear of the Lord; and his eyes were heavy that he could not see any man, through the greatness of old age.

6E ele levantou os seus olhos para a luz do anjo que falava com ele, o qual tinha a semelhança e a aparência de seu pai Isaque; e temeu, e ficou perturbado.

6And he lifted up his eyes unto the light of the angel who talked with him, who bore the likeness and the countenance of his father Isaac; and he was afraid, and was troubled.

7Disse-lhe o anjo: 'Não temas, Jacó. Eu sou o anjo que caminhou contigo desde a tua mocidade; eu te escolhi para receberes a bênção de teu pai Isaque e de tua mãe Rebeca; eu sou aquele que está contigo, ó Israel, em todas as coisas que fizeste e em todas as coisas que viste.'

7The angel said unto him: 'Fear not, Jacob. I am the angel that hath walked with thee from thy youth; I chose thee that thou mightest receive the blessing of Isaac thy father and Rebekah thy mother; I am he that is with thee, O Israel, in all things that thou hast done and in all things that thou hast seen.'

8'Eu sou aquele que te livrou da mão de Labão quando ele corria atrás de ti; dei-te todos os seus bens, e abençoei a ti, e a todas as tuas mulheres, e a teus filhos, e a todos os teus animais.'

8'I am he that delivered thee out of the hand of Laban when he pursued after thee; I gave thee all his possessions, and I blessed thee, and all thy wives, and thy children, and all thy cattle.'

9'Eu também sou aquele que te livrou das mãos de Esaú; eu também sou aquele que guiou o teu caminho até a terra do Egito, ó Israel, e fiz com que te expandisses grandemente.'

9'I also am he that delivered thee out of the hands of Esau; I also am he that guided thy way down into the land of Egypt, O Israel, and caused thee to spread abroad exceedingly.'

10'Bem-aventurado é teu pai Abraão, porque se tornou amigo do Deus Altíssimo por causa de sua hospitalidade aos estrangeiros; bem-aventurado é teu pai Isaque que te gerou, porque o seu sacrifício se tornou perfeito, sendo aprazível a Deus.'

10'Blessed is thy father Abraham, for he became the friend of the Most High God by reason of his love for strangers; blessed is thy father Isaac who begat thee, for his sacrifice became perfect, being well-pleasing unto God.'

11'Bem-aventurado és tu também, ó Jacó, porque viste a Deus face a face, e contemplaste o exército dos anjos do Deus Altíssimo; viste a escada firmada sobre a terra, cujo topo alcançava o céu; viste também o Senhor estabelecido acima do topo dela em poder inefável, e clamaste, dizendo: Esta é a casa de Deus, e esta é a porta do céu!'

11'Blessed art thou also, O Jacob, for thou didst see God face to face, and didst behold the host of the angels of the Most High God; thou sawest the ladder set fast upon the earth, whose top reached unto heaven; thou sawest also the Lord established above the top thereof in unutterable power, and criedst out, saying: This is the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!'

12'Bem-aventurado és tu, porque prevaleceste com Deus, e foste valoroso entre os homens; agora, pois, não te perturbes, ó amado de Deus; bem-aventurado és tu, ó Israel, e bem-aventurada é toda a tua semente, porque sereis chamados patriarcas até a consumação desta era; pois verdadeiramente vós sois o Meu povo, e vós sois o fundamento dos servos de Deus.'

12'Blessed art thou, for thou didst prevail with God, and wast mighty among men; now therefore be not troubled, O beloved of God; blessed art thou, O Israel, and blessed is all thy seed, for ye shall be called patriarchs until the consummation of this age; for verily ye are My people, and ye are the foundation of the servants of God.'

13'Bem-aventurada é toda nação que falar da tua pureza, e da tua virtude, e da tua justiça, e das tuas boas obras; bem-aventurado é o homem que fizer memória de vós em vossa honrada festa.'

13'Blessed is every nation that shall speak of thy purity, and thy virtue, and thy righteousness, and thy good deeds; blessed is the man that shall make remembrance of you in your honored feast.'

14'Bem-aventurado é aquele que fizer um ato de caridade em vosso nome, ou der um copo de água a um homem, ou trouxer uma oferta perfeita ao vosso santuário ou a qualquer santuário em vosso nome, ou acolher um estrangeiro, ou visitar os enfermos, ou consolar um órfão, ou vestir aquele que está nu em vosso nome: não carecerá de bem algum neste mundo, e no mundo vindouro herdará a vida eterna.'

14'Blessed is he that shall perform an act of charity in your name, or shall give a cup of water unto a man, or shall bring an offering complete unto your sanctuary or unto any sanctuary in your name, or shall welcome a stranger, or shall visit the sick, or shall comfort an orphan, or shall clothe the naked in your name: he shall lack no good thing in this world, and in the world to come he shall inherit everlasting life.'

15'E além disso, quem quer que escreva a vossa vida pelo seu trabalho, ou a adquira com suas mãos, ou a leia com entendimento, e quem quer que a ouça com fé e com firmeza de coração, e quem quer que proclame as vossas obras: todos os seus pecados lhes serão perdoados, e eles serão concedidos a vós no reino dos céus.'

15'And furthermore, whosoever shall write your life by his labor, or acquire it with his hands, or read it with understanding, and whosoever shall hear it in faith and in steadfastness of heart, and whosoever shall proclaim your deeds: all their sins shall be forgiven them, and they shall be bestowed upon you in the kingdom of the heavens.'

16'Agora, pois, levanta-te, porque estão prestes a transferir-te do cansaço e do pesar de coração para o descanso eterno; e hão de conduzir-te a um refrigério indefectível, e a um repouso sem fim, e a uma luz que jamais se põe, e à alegria, e ao regozijo, e ao júbilo espiritual.'

16'Now therefore arise, for they are about to transfer thee from toil and grief of heart unto rest everlasting; and they shall conduct thee unto an unfading refreshment, and a rest without end, and a light that never setteth, and joy, and gladness, and spiritual rejoicing.'

17'Agora, pois, encomenda as tuas palavras nas mãos de teus filhos; e a paz seja contigo, porque devo ir para Aquele que me enviou.' E, havendo dito estas coisas, o anjo retirou-se dele para os céus em paz, enquanto Jacó olhava após ele.

17'Now therefore commit thy words into the hands of thy children; and peace be with thee, for I must go unto Him that sent me.' And when he had spoken these things unto him, the angel departed from him up into the heavens in peace, while Jacob looked after him.
