Testamento de Jacó 6

1Eis que estas coisas vos anunciamos, expondo-vos a partida do corpo de nosso pai o patriarca Jacó Israel segundo a medida que alcançamos, conforme está escrito nas Escrituras divinamente inspiradas e nos antigos registros de nossos santos pais os Apóstolos, eu, Atanásio, vosso pai.

1Behold, these things have we declared unto you, setting before you the departure from the body of our father the patriarch Jacob Israel according to the measure whereunto we have attained, as it is written in the God-inspired Scriptures and in the ancient records of our holy fathers the Apostles, I Athanasius your father.

2Se desejais conhecer a confirmação deste testamento do patriarca Jacó, tomai para vós o Gênesis do profeta Moisés, o legislador, e lede nele; ele iluminará a vossa mente, e achareis estas coisas e ainda mais escritas a respeito dele.

2If ye desire to know the confirmation of this testament of the patriarch Jacob, take unto yourselves the Genesis of the prophet Moses the lawgiver, and read therein; it shall enlighten your mind, and ye shall find these things and yet more written concerning him.

3E além disso, achareis a Deus e ao Seu anjo fazendo companhia a eles enquanto ainda estavam no corpo, falando com eles muitas vezes, em muitas passagens da Escritura.

3And furthermore, ye shall find God and His angel keeping company with them while they were yet in the body, speaking with them many times, in many passages of the Scripture.

4E ainda, que Ele falou em muitas passagens na Escritura com o patriarca Jacó, dizendo: 'Abençoarei a tua descendência como as estrelas do céu.'

4And again, that He spake in many passages in the Scripture with the patriarch Jacob, saying: 'I will bless thy seed as the stars of heaven.'

5E também, quando Jacó falou com José, seu filho: 'Meu Deus me apareceu na terra de Canaã, em Luz, e me abençoou, dizendo: Eu te abençoarei, e te farei multiplicar, e farei com que povos e nações procedam de ti, e darei esta terra à tua semente depois de ti por posse perpétua.'

5And again, when Jacob spake with Joseph his son: 'My God appeared unto me in the land of Canaan, in Luz, and blessed me, saying: I will bless thee, and cause thee to multiply, and cause peoples and nations to proceed from thee, and I will give this land unto thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.'

6Eis, portanto, ó meus amados, estas coisas ouvi a respeito de nosso pai o patriarca; falemos, pois, de suas obras, e de sua virtude, e de sua piedade para com Deus, e de seu amor para com os homens, e de sua hospitalidade, para que sejamos dignos de nos tornar seus filhos no reino dos céus, a fim de que roguem por nós perante Deus, para que Ele nos livre dos tormentos no Amente, os quais o santo patriarca Jacó nomeou em suas palavras repletas de toda doçura.

6Behold therefore, O my beloved, these things have I heard concerning our father the patriarch; let us speak therefore of their deeds, and their virtue, and their godliness, and their love toward mankind, and their hospitality, that we may be worthy to become their children in the kingdom of the heavens, that they may make supplication for us before God, that He may deliver us from the torments in Amente, which the holy patriarch Jacob named in his words full of all sweetness.

7Pois ele ensinava a seus filhos acerca dos castigos, chamando-os de a espada do Senhor Deus, que é o fogo preparado, dando vingança aos pecadores e àqueles que se macularam; estas são as coisas que o patriarca Jacó revelou, instruindo o restante de seus filhos, para que os amantes da instrução ouçam e façam o que é bom a todo tempo, amando-se uns aos outros, e amando a caridade e a misericórdia; pois a misericórdia triunfa sobre o juízo, e a caridade cobre uma multidão de pecados, e quem se compadece do pobre empresta a Deus.

7For he taught his children concerning the punishments, calling them the sword of the Lord God, which is the fire that is prepared, rendering vengeance unto the sinners and them that are defiled; these are the things which the patriarch Jacob revealed, instructing the remnant of his children, that they who love instruction may hear and perform that which is good at all times, loving one another, and loving charity and mercy; for mercy glorieth against judgment, and charity covereth a multitude of sins, and whosoever hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto God.
