Vidas dos Profetas 5

1Elias, o profeta: era de Tesbom [da terra dos árabes], da tribo de Arão, habitando em Gileade; pois Tésbis era uma habitação dada aos sacerdotes.

1Elijah the prophet: he was from Thesbon [from the land of the Arabians], of the tribe of Aaron, dwelling in Gilead; for Thesbis was a dwelling given to the priests.

2E quando a sua mãe o deu à luz, Sobaque, seu pai, viu uma visão: que homens de brancura resplandecente o saudavam, e que o envolviam em fraldas de fogo e lhe davam uma chama de fogo para comer.

2And when his mother bore him, Sobac his father saw a vision: that men of shining white were greeting him, and that they wrapped him in swaddling clothes of fire, and gave him a flame of fire to eat.

3E indo a Jerusalém, contou-o aos sacerdotes.

3And going to Jerusalem, he reported it to the priests.

4E o oráculo lhe disse: “Não temas; pois a morada do teu filho será luz, e a sua palavra um decreto, e julgará Israel com espada e com fogo.”

4And the oracle said to him: "Do not be afraid; for the dwelling of your child shall be light, and his word a decree, and he shall judge Israel with sword and with fire."

5Este é Elias, que pela terceira vez fez descer fogo do céu, e reteve a chuva com a sua própria língua, e ressuscitou mortos, e foi arrebatado ao céu num redemoinho de fogo.

5This is Elijah, who a third time brought down fire from heaven, and held back the rain by his own tongue, and raised the dead, and was taken up into heaven in a whirlwind of fire.
