1Ezekiel the prophet: he was from the land of Sarera, of the sons of the high priests, and he died in the land of the Chaldeans in the captivity, having prophesied much concerning the return of the people, and concerning the return of the sons of Israel, and [he prophesied] concerning the coming of the Lord.

2And the leader of the people put him to death in his sojourn in Babylon, being rebuked by him for the worship of idols.

3And they buried him in the field of Maour, in the tomb of Shem and Arphaxad, forefathers of Abraham; and the tomb is to this day a double cave; for Abraham in Hebron, after its likeness, made the tomb of Sarah his wife; it is called double because it is dug out and hidden from the level ground, and there is an upper chamber upon the earth, hanging on a rock.

4This prophet, then, gave the people a portent, that they should give heed to the river Chobar: that when its water fails, it signifies that the sickle of desolation is hoped for to the end of the earth; and when its water overflows, it signifies the return of Jerusalem; which also came to pass.

5For the holy man lies in the land of the Assyrians; and many gathered at his tomb for prayer and supplication.

6And once, when a multitude of the Jews had come together there for his memorial, the Chaldeans, fearing lest they should revolt, were about to come upon them and destroy them; and the prophet made the water of the river stand still, that the sons of Israel might escape, getting across to the other side.

7But those who dared to pursue the people after them were drowned.

8This prophet, by prayer, of itself supplied them with an abundant food of fishes, because they were perishing of famine; and from the multitude of fishes they were fed; and for many who were failing he besought that life might come from God.

9This prophet, when the people were perishing at the hands of the enemies, stood before their rulers and pressed them hard.

10And through portents the enemies were frightened and ceased.

11Então Ezequiel disse ao povo: “Estamos totalmente perdidos; pereceu a nossa esperança.”

11Then Ezekiel said to the people: "We are utterly undone; our hope has perished."

12And by the wonders of the bones of the dead he persuaded them that there is hope for Israel, both here and in the age to come.

13This man, being there in the country of the Chaldeans, made known to the people all that was taking place in Jerusalem and in the temple.

14This prophet was snatched away from the country of the Chaldeans and carried to Jerusalem for the rebuke of the unbelievers.

15This Ezekiel saw, in the manner of Moses, the site of the temple of the Lord and the broad wall, as Daniel also said, that it would be built.

16This man in Babylon judged the tribe of Dan and Gad, because they were impious toward the Lord, persecuting those who believed in the law; and he wrought for them a great sign: the serpents consumed their infants and all their cattle.

17And he foretold that because of them the people would not return to Jerusalem, but would be in a land of their own until the consummation of their error; for of them was he who put him to death.

18For he was set against him until the day of his death.
