1 Clemente 42

1Os Apóstolos receberam o Evangelho para nós da parte do Senhor Jesus Cristo; Jesus Cristo foi enviado da parte de Deus.

1The Apostles received the Gospel for us from the Lord Jesus Christ; Jesus Christ was sent forth from God.

2Assim, pois, Cristo é de Deus, e os Apóstolos são de Cristo. Ambos, portanto, vieram da vontade de Deus, na ordem estabelecida.

2So then Christ is from God, and the Apostles are from Christ. Both therefore came of the will of God in the appointed order.

3Tendo, pois, recebido uma incumbência, e tendo sido plenamente assegurados pela ressurreição de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e confirmados na palavra de Deus com plena certeza do Espírito Santo, saíram com a boa nova de que o reino de Deus viria.

3Having therefore received a charge, and having been fully assured through the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and confirmed in the word of God with full assurance of the Holy Ghost, they went forth with the glad tidings that the kingdom of God should come.

4Assim, pregando por toda parte, no campo e na cidade, constituíram as suas primícias, depois de as terem provado pelo Espírito, para serem bispos e diáconos dos que viessem a crer.

4So preaching everywhere in country and town, they appointed their firstfruits, when they had proved them by the Spirit, to be bishops and deacons unto them that should believe.

5E isto não fizeram de modo novo; pois de fato tinha sido escrito a respeito de bispos e diáconos desde tempos antiquíssimos; pois assim diz a Escritura em certo lugar: Constituirei os seus bispos em justiça e os seus diáconos em fé.

5And this they did in no new fashion; for indeed it had been written concerning bishops and deacons from very ancient times; for thus saith the scripture in a certain place, I will appoint their bishops in righteousness and their deacons in faith.
