1E a primeira região se chama oriente, porque é a primeira; e a segunda, sul, porque o Altíssimo descerá ali; sim, ali, num sentido muito especial, descerá aquele que é bendito para sempre.

1And the first quarter is called the east, because it is the first: and the second, the south, because the Most High will descend there, yea, there in quite a special sense will He who is blessed for ever descend.

2E a região do ocidente se chama a diminuída, porque ali todos os luzeiros do céu minguam e descem.

2And the west quarter is named the diminished, because there all the luminaries of the heaven wane and go down.

3E a quarta região, chamada norte, está dividida em três partes: a primeira delas é para a habitação dos homens; e a segunda contém mares de água, e os abismos, e as florestas, e os rios, e as trevas e as nuvens; e a terceira parte contém o jardim da justiça.

3And the fourth quarter, named the north, is divided into three parts: the first of them is for the dwelling of men: and the second contains seas of water, and the abysses and forests and rivers, and darkness and clouds; and the third part contains the garden of righteousness.

4Vi sete montes altos, mais altos que todos os montes que há na terra; e dali sai a geada, e os dias, as estações e os anos passam.

4I saw seven high mountains, higher than all the mountains which are on the earth: and thence comes forth hoar-frost, and days, seasons, and years pass away.

5Vi sete rios na terra, maiores que todos os rios; um deles, que vem do ocidente, derrama as suas águas no Grande Mar.

5I saw seven rivers on the earth larger than all the rivers: one of them coming from the west pours its waters into the Great Sea.

6E estes dois vêm do norte para o mar e derramam as suas águas no mar Eritreu, no oriente.

6And these two come from the north to the sea and pour their waters into the Erythraean Sea in the east.

7E os quatro restantes saem para o lado do norte, para o seu próprio mar, dois deles para o mar Eritreu e dois para o Grande Mar, e ali se lançam; e alguns dizem: para o deserto.

7And the remaining four come forth on the side of the north to their own sea, two of them to the Erythraean Sea, and two into the Great Sea and discharge themselves there and some say: into the desert.

8Vi sete grandes ilhas no mar e no continente: duas no continente e cinco no Grande Mar.

8Seven great islands I saw in the sea and in the mainland: two in the mainland and five in the Great Sea.
