2 Clemente 1

1Irmãos, devemos pensar de Jesus Cristo como de Deus, como do Juiz dos vivos e dos mortos.

1Brethren, we ought so to think of Jesus Christ, as of God, as of the Judge of quick and dead.

2E não devemos ter pensamentos mesquinhos acerca da nossa Salvação; pois quando pensamos coisas insignificantes a Seu respeito, esperamos também receber coisas insignificantes. E os que escutam como se se tratasse de coisas insignificantes erram; e nós mesmos erramos, não sabendo donde, nem por quem, nem para que lugar fomos chamados, e quantas coisas Jesus Cristo suportou padecer por amor de nós.

2And we ought not to think mean things of our Salvation: for when we think mean things of Him, we expect also to receive mean things. And they that listen as concerning mean things do wrong; and we ourselves do wrong, not knowing whence and by whom and unto what place we were called, and how many things Jesus Christ endured to suffer for our sakes.

3Que retribuição, pois, Lhe daremos? Ou que fruto digno do dom que nos concedeu? E a quantas misericórdias somos devedores a Ele!

3What recompense then shall we give unto Him? Or what fruit worthy of His own gift to us? And how many mercies do we owe to Him!

4Pois Ele derramou a luz sobre nós; falou-nos como um pai a seus filhos; salvou-nos quando estávamos a perecer.

4For He bestowed the light upon us; He spake to us, as a father to his sons; He saved us, when we were perishing.

5Que louvor, então, Lhe tributaremos? Ou que pagamento em retribuição pelas coisas que recebemos?

5What praise then shall we give to Him? Or what payment of recompense for those things which we received?

6Nós, que éramos mutilados em nosso entendimento e adorávamos paus e pedras, ouro, prata e bronze, obras de mãos de homens; e toda a nossa vida nada mais era senão morte. Estando nós, pois, assim envolvidos em trevas e oprimidos por esta densa névoa em nossa visão, recobramos a vista, despojando-nos pela Sua vontade da nuvem em que estávamos envoltos.

6We who were maimed in our understanding, and worshipped stocks and stones and gold and silver and bronze, the works of men; and our whole life was nothing else but death. While then we were thus wrapped in darkness and oppressed with this thick mist in our vision, we recovered our sight, putting off by His will the cloud wherein we were wrapped.

7Pois teve misericórdia de nós e em Sua compaixão nos salvou, tendo contemplado em nós muito erro e perdição, mesmo quando não tínhamos esperança alguma de salvação, a não ser a que vinha d'Ele.

7For He had mercy on us, and in His compassion saved us, having beheld in us much error and perdition, even when we had no hope of salvation, save that which came from Him.

8Pois chamou-nos quando não éramos, e do não ser quis que viéssemos a ser.

8For He called us, when we were not, and from not being He willed us to be.
