2 Macabeus 1

1Os irmãos, os judeus que estão em Jerusalém e na terra da Judeia, aos irmãos, os judeus que estão por todo o Egito, saúde e paz.

1The brethren, the Jews that be at Jerusalem and in the land of Judea, wish unto the brethren, the Jews that are throughout Egypt health and peace:

2Deus vos faça bem e se lembre da sua aliança, que fez com Abraão, Isaque e Jacó, seus servos fiéis;

2God be gracious unto you, and remember his covenant that he made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, his faithful servants;

3e vos dê a todos um coração para o servirdes e fazerdes a sua vontade com ânimo generoso e alma disposta;

3And give you all an heart to serve him, and to do his will, with a good courage and a willing mind;

4e abra os vossos corações na sua lei e nos seus mandamentos, e vos dê paz;

4And open your hearts in his law and commandments, and send you peace,

5e ouça as vossas orações, e se reconcilie convosco, e não vos desampare no tempo da angústia.

5And hear your prayers, and be at one with you, and never forsake you in time of trouble.

6E agora estamos aqui orando por vós.

6And now we be here praying for you.

7No reinado de Demétrio, no ano cento e sessenta e nove, nós, os judeus, vos escrevemos na extrema angústia que nos sobreveio naqueles anos, desde que Jasão e os seus se revoltaram contra a terra santa e o reino,

7What time as Demetrius reigned, in the hundred threescore and ninth year, we the Jews wrote unto you in the extremity of trouble that came upon us in those years, from the time that Jason and his company revolted from the holy land and kingdom,

8e queimaram o pórtico, e derramaram sangue inocente; então oramos ao Senhor e fomos ouvidos; oferecemos também sacrifícios e flor de farinha, e acendemos as lâmpadas, e expusemos os pães.

8And burned the porch, and shed innocent blood: then we prayed unto the Lord, and were heard; we offered also sacrifices and fine flour, and lighted the lamps, and set forth the loaves.

9E agora vede que celebreis a festa dos tabernáculos no mês de Casleu.

9And now see that ye keep the feast of tabernacles in the month Casleu.

10No ano cento e oitenta e oito, o povo que estava em Jerusalém e na Judeia, e o conselho, e Judas, a Aristóbulo, mestre do rei Ptolomeu, da linhagem dos sacerdotes ungidos, e aos judeus que estão no Egito, saudação e saúde.

10In the hundred fourscore and eighth year, the people that were at Jerusalem and in Judea, and the council, and Judas, sent greeting and health unto Aristobulus, king Ptolemeus’ master, who was of the stock of the anointed priests, and to the Jews that were in Egypt:

11Tendo-nos Deus livrado de grandes perigos, nós lhe damos muitas graças, como quem esteve em guerra contra um rei.

11Insomuch as God hath delivered us from great perils, we thank him highly, as having been in battle against a king.

12Pois ele expulsou os que pelejavam contra a cidade santa.

12For he cast them out that fought within the holy city.

13Pois, quando o chefe chegou à Pérsia com o seu exército, que parecia invencível, foram mortos no templo de Naneia pela astúcia dos sacerdotes de Naneia.

13For when the leader was come into Persia, and the army with him that seemed invincible, they were slain in the temple of Nanea by the deceit of Nanea’s priests.

14Pois Antíoco, como se quisesse casar-se com ela, veio ao lugar com os amigos que estavam com ele, para receber dinheiro a título de dote.

14For Antiochus, as though he would marry her, came into the place, and his friends that were with him, to receive money in name of a dowry.

15E, tendo os sacerdotes de Naneia exposto o dinheiro, e havendo ele entrado com pouca gente no recinto do templo, fecharam o templo assim que Antíoco entrou;

15Which when the priests of Nanea had set forth, and he was entered with a small company into the compass of the temple, they shut the temple as soon as Antiochus was come in:

16e, abrindo uma porta secreta do teto, lançaram pedras como raios e abateram o chefe; despedaçaram-nos, cortaram-lhes a cabeça e as lançaram aos que estavam fora.

16And opening a privy door of the roof, they threw stones like thunderbolts, and struck down the captain, hewed them in pieces, smote off their heads and cast them to those that were without.

17Bendito seja em tudo o nosso Deus, que entregou os ímpios.

17Blessed be our God in all things, who hath delivered up the ungodly.

18Portanto, estando nós para celebrar a purificação do templo no dia vinte e cinco do mês de Casleu, julgamos necessário avisar-vos, para que também vós a celebreis, como a festa dos tabernáculos e a do fogo, que nos foi dado quando Neemias ofereceu sacrifício, depois de ter edificado o templo e o altar.

18Therefore whereas we are now purposed to keep the purification of the temple upon the five and twentieth day of the month Casleu, we thought it necessary to certify you thereof, that ye also might keep it, as the feast of the tabernacles, and of the fire, which was given us when Neemias offered sacrifice, after that he had builded the temple and the altar.

19Pois, quando os nossos pais foram levados para a Pérsia, os sacerdotes piedosos daquele tempo tomaram secretamente do fogo do altar e o esconderam na cavidade de um poço sem água, onde o guardaram com segurança, de modo que o lugar ficou desconhecido de todos.

19For when our fathers were led into Persia, the priests that were then devout took the fire of the altar privily, and hid it in an hollow place of a pit without water, where they kept it sure, so that the place was unknown to all men.

20E, passados muitos anos, quando aprouve a Deus, Neemias, enviado pelo rei da Pérsia, mandou os descendentes dos sacerdotes que o haviam escondido buscar o fogo; mas, quando nos disseram que não haviam achado fogo, mas água espessa,

20Now after many years, when it pleased God, Neemias, being sent from the king of Persia, did send of the posterity of those priests that had hid it to the fire: but when they told us they found no fire, but thick water;

21mandou-lhes tirá-la e trazê-la; e, depois de postos os sacrifícios, Neemias ordenou aos sacerdotes que aspergissem com aquela água a lenha e o que estava sobre ela.

21Then commanded he them to draw it up, and to bring it; and when the sacrifices were laid on, Neemias commanded the priests to sprinkle the wood and the things laid thereupon with the water.

22Feito isso, e chegado o tempo em que brilhou o sol, que antes estava encoberto pela nuvem, acendeu-se um grande fogo, de modo que todos ficaram maravilhados.

22When this was done, and the time came that the sun shone, which afore was hid in the cloud, there was a great fire kindled, so that every man marvelled.

23E os sacerdotes fizeram oração enquanto o sacrifício se consumia, digo, os sacerdotes e todos os demais, começando Jônatas e respondendo os outros, como fazia Neemias.

23And the priests made a prayer whilst the sacrifice was consuming, I say, both the priests, and all the rest, Jonathan beginning, and the rest answering thereunto, as Neemias did.

24E a oração era desta maneira: Ó Senhor, Senhor Deus, Criador de todas as coisas, que és terrível e forte, e justo, e misericordioso, e o único Rei bondoso,

24And the prayer was after this manner; O Lord, Lord God, Creator of all things, who art fearful and strong, and righteous, and merciful, and the only and gracious King,

25o único que dá todas as coisas, o único justo, todo-poderoso e eterno, tu que livras Israel de toda angústia, e escolheste os pais e os santificaste:

25The only giver of all things, the only just, almighty, and everlasting, thou that deliverest Israel from all trouble, and didst choose the fathers, and sanctify them:

26recebe o sacrifício por todo o teu povo Israel, e guarda a tua porção, e santifica-a.

26Receive the sacrifice for thy whole people Israel, and preserve thine own portion, and sanctify it.

27Reúne os nossos dispersos, liberta os que servem entre os gentios, olha para os desprezados e abominados, e saibam os gentios que tu és o nosso Deus.

27Gather those together that are scattered from us, deliver them that serve among the heathen, look upon them that are despised and abhorred, and let the heathen know that thou art our God.

28Castiga os que nos oprimem e com soberba nos fazem injúria.

28Punish them that oppress us, and with pride do us wrong.

29Planta de novo o teu povo no teu lugar santo, como disse Moisés.

29Plant thy people again in thy holy place, as Moses hath spoken.

30E os sacerdotes cantavam hinos de ação de graças.

30And the priests sung psalms of thanksgiving.

31E, consumido o sacrifício, Neemias mandou derramar o resto da água sobre as pedras grandes.

31Now when the sacrifice was consumed, Neemias commanded the water that was left to be poured on the great stones.

32Feito isso, acendeu-se uma chama; mas foi absorvida pela luz que resplandecia do altar.

32When this was done, there was kindled a flame: but it was consumed by the light that shined from the altar.

33E, quando o fato se tornou conhecido, contaram ao rei da Pérsia que, no lugar onde os sacerdotes deportados haviam escondido o fogo, aparecera água, com a qual Neemias purificara os sacrifícios.

33So when this matter was known, it was told the king of Persia, that in the place, where the priests that were led away had hid the fire, there appeared water, and that Neemias had purified the sacrifices therewith.

34Então o rei, cercando o lugar, o tornou sagrado, depois de ter examinado o fato.

34Then the king, inclosing the place, made it holy, after he had tried the matter.

35E o rei recebeu muitos presentes e os distribuiu aos que queria favorecer.

35And the king took many gifts, and bestowed thereof on those whom he would gratify.

36E Neemias chamou a isto Neftar, que quer dizer purificação; mas muitos o chamam Nefi.

36And Neemias called this thing Naphthar, which is as much as to say, a cleansing: but many men call it Nephi.
