4 Esdras 11

1Então vi um sonho, e eis que subia do mar uma águia que tinha doze asas emplumadas e três cabeças.

1Then saw I a dream, and, behold, there came up from the sea an eagle, which had twelve feathered wings, and three heads.

2E olhei, e eis que ela estendia as suas asas sobre toda a terra, e todos os ventos do ar sopravam sobre ela e se ajuntavam.

2And I saw, and, behold, she spread her wings over all the earth, and all the winds of the air blew on her, and were gathered together.

3E atentei, e dentre as suas penas cresciam outras penas contrárias; e tornaram-se penas pequenas e curtas.

3And I beheld, and out of her feathers there grew other contrary feathers; and they became little feathers and small.

4Mas as suas cabeças estavam em repouso; a cabeça do meio era maior do que as outras, contudo repousava com as demais.

4But her heads were at rest: the head in the midst was greater than the other, yet rested it with the residue.

5Além disso olhei, e eis que a águia voava com as suas penas, e reinava sobre a terra e sobre os que nela habitavam.

5Moreover I beheld, and, lo, the eagle flew with her feathers, and reigned upon earth, and over them that dwelt therein.

6E vi que todas as coisas debaixo do céu lhe estavam sujeitas, e nenhum homem falava contra ela, nem criatura alguma sobre a terra.

6And I saw that all things under heaven were subject unto her, and no man spake against her, no, not one creature upon earth.

7E olhei, e eis que a águia se ergueu sobre as suas garras, e falou às suas penas, dizendo:

7And I beheld, and, lo, the eagle rose upon her talons, and spake to her feathers, saying,

8Não vigieis todas de uma vez; durma cada uma no seu próprio lugar e vigie por turno;

8Watch not all at once: sleep every one in his own place, and watch by course:

9Mas sejam as cabeças reservadas para o fim.

9But let the heads be preserved for the last.

10E olhei, e eis que a voz não saía das suas cabeças, mas do meio do seu corpo.

10And I beheld, and, lo, the voice went not out of her heads, but from the midst of her body.

11E numerei as suas penas contrárias, e eis que eram oito.

11And I numbered her contrary feathers, and, behold, there were eight of them.

12E olhei, e eis que do lado direito se levantou uma pena, e reinou sobre toda a terra;

12And I looked, and, behold, on the right side there arose one feather, and reigned over all the earth;

13E sucedeu que, havendo ela reinado, veio o seu fim, e o seu lugar não apareceu mais; e a seguinte se levantou e reinou, e durou muito tempo;

13And so it was, that when it reigned, the end of it came, and the place thereof appeared no more: so the next following stood up, and reigned, and had a great time;

14E aconteceu que, havendo ela reinado, veio também o seu fim, como o da primeira, de sorte que não apareceu mais.

14And it happened, that when it reigned, the end of it came also, like as the first, so that it appeared no more.

15Então veio a ela uma voz, e disse:

15Then came there a voice unto it, and said,

16Ouve, tu que dominaste sobre a terra por tanto tempo; isto te digo, antes que comeces a não aparecer mais:

16Hear thou that hast borne rule over the earth so long: this I say unto thee, before thou beginnest to appear no more,

17Nenhum depois de ti alcançará o teu tempo, nem mesmo a metade dele.

17There shall none after thee attain unto thy time, neither unto the half thereof.

18Então se levantou a terceira, e reinou como as outras antes, e também não apareceu mais.

18Then arose the third, and reigned as the other before, and appeared no more also.

19Assim sucedeu com todas as restantes, uma após outra, de modo que cada uma reinou e depois não apareceu mais.

19So went it with all the residue one after another, as that every one reigned, and then appeared no more.

20Então olhei, e eis que no decurso do tempo as penas que se seguiam se levantaram ao lado direito para que reinassem também; e algumas delas reinaram, mas dentro de pouco tempo não apareceram mais;

20Then I beheld, and, lo, in process of time the feathers that followed stood up upon the right side, that they might rule also; and some of them ruled, but within a while they appeared no more:

21Pois algumas delas foram postas, mas não reinaram.

21For some of them were set up, but ruled not.

22Depois disto olhei, e eis que as doze penas não apareceram mais, nem as duas penas pequenas;

22After this I looked, and, behold, the twelve feathers appeared no more, nor the two little feathers:

23E nada mais restava sobre o corpo da águia senão três cabeças que repousavam e seis pequenas asas.

23And there was no more upon the eagle's body, but three heads that rested, and six little wings.

24Então vi também que duas pequenas penas se separaram das seis e ficaram debaixo da cabeça que estava ao lado direito; pois as quatro continuaram no seu lugar.

24Then saw I also that two little feathers divided themselves from the six, and remained under the head that was upon the right side: for the four continued in their place.

25E atentei, e eis que as penas que estavam debaixo da asa intentaram levantar-se e tomar o domínio.

25And I beheld, and, lo, the feathers that were under the wing thought to set up themselves and to have the rule.

26E olhei, e eis que uma foi levantada, mas dentro em breve não apareceu mais.

26And I beheld, and, lo, there was one set up, but shortly it appeared no more.

27E a segunda desapareceu mais depressa do que a primeira.

27And the second was sooner away than the first.

28E atentei, e eis que as duas que restavam intentaram também em si mesmas reinar;

28And I beheld, and, lo, the two that remained thought also in themselves to reign:

29E quando assim pensavam, eis que despertou uma das cabeças que estavam em repouso, a saber, a que estava no meio; pois essa era maior do que as outras duas cabeças.

29And when they so thought, behold, there awaked one of the heads that were at rest, namely, it that was in the midst; for that was greater than the two other heads.

30E então vi que as outras duas cabeças se uniram a ela.

30And then I saw that the two other heads were joined with it.

31E eis que a cabeça se voltou com as que estavam com ela, e devorou as duas penas debaixo da asa que intentavam reinar.

31And, behold, the head was turned with them that were with it, and did eat up the two feathers under the wing that would have reigned.

32Mas esta cabeça pôs toda a terra em pavor, e dominou nela sobre todos os que habitavam sobre a terra com grande opressão; e teve o governo do mundo mais do que todas as asas que haviam sido.

32But this head put the whole earth in fear, and bare rule in it over all those that dwelt upon the earth with much oppression; and it had the governance of the world more than all the wings that had been.

33E depois disto olhei, e eis que a cabeça que estava no meio subitamente não apareceu mais, como as asas.

33And after this I beheld, and, lo, the head that was in the midst suddenly appeared no more, like as the wings.

34Mas ficaram as duas cabeças, as quais também do mesmo modo reinaram sobre a terra e sobre os que nela habitavam.

34But there remained the two heads, which also in like sort ruled upon the earth, and over those that dwelt therein.

35E olhei, e eis que a cabeça do lado direito devorou a que estava do lado esquerdo.

35And I beheld, and, lo, the head upon the right side devoured it that was upon the left side.

36Então ouvi uma voz que me disse: Olha diante de ti e considera o que vês.

36Then I head a voice, which said unto me, Look before thee, and consider the thing that thou seest.

37E olhei, e eis como que um leão bramando, impelido para fora da floresta; e vi que enviou uma voz de homem à águia, e disse:

37And I beheld, and lo, as it were a roaring lion chased out of the wood: and I saw that he sent out a man's voice unto the eagle, and said,

38Ouve tu, e falarei contigo, e o Altíssimo te dirá:

38Hear thou, I will talk with thee, and the Highest shall say unto thee,

39Não és tu a que restas dos quatro animais a quem fiz reinar no meu mundo, para que por meio deles viesse o fim dos seus tempos?

39Art not thou it that remainest of the four beasts, whom I made to reign in my world, that the end of their times might come through them?

40E o quarto veio, e venceu todos os animais passados, e teve poder sobre o mundo com grande espanto, e sobre toda a redondeza da terra com muita e perversa opressão; e por tanto tempo habitou sobre a terra com engano.

40And the fourth came, and overcame all the beasts that were past, and had power over the world with great fearfulness, and over the whole compass of the earth with much wicked oppression; and so long time dwelt he upon the earth with deceit.

41Pois a terra não julgaste com verdade.

41For the earth hast thou not judged with truth.

42Porque afligiste os mansos, magoaste os pacíficos, amaste os mentirosos, destruíste as moradas dos que davam fruto e derribaste os muros dos que nenhum mal te fizeram.

42For thou hast afflicted the meek, thou hast hurt the peaceable, thou hast loved liars, and destroyed the dwellings of them that brought forth fruit, and hast cast down the walls of such as did thee no harm.

43Portanto, o teu procedimento injusto subiu até o Altíssimo, e a tua soberba até o Poderoso.

43Therefore is thy wrongful dealing come up unto the Highest, and thy pride unto the Mighty.

44O Altíssimo também olhou para os tempos orgulhosos, e eis que estão findos, e as suas abominações estão cumpridas.

44The Highest also hath looked upon the proud times, and, behold, they are ended, and his abominations are fulfilled.

45E, portanto, não apareças mais, ó águia, nem as tuas horríveis asas, nem as tuas perversas penas, nem as tuas malévolas cabeças, nem as tuas daninhas garras, nem todo o teu corpo vão;

45And therefore appear no more, thou eagle, nor thy horrible wings, nor thy wicked feathers nor thy malicious heads, nor thy hurtful claws, nor all thy vain body:

46Para que toda a terra seja refrigerada e possa respirar, sendo liberta da tua violência, e para que espere no juízo e na misericórdia dAquele que a fez.

46That all the earth may be refreshed, and may return, being delivered from thy violence, and that she may hope for the judgment and mercy of him that made her.
