Baruque 3

1Ó Senhor Todo-Poderoso, Deus de Israel, a alma angustiada e o espírito perturbado clamam a ti.

1O Lord Almighty, God of Israel, the soul in anguish the troubled spirit, crieth unto thee.

2Ouve, Senhor, e tem misericórdia, porque tu és misericordioso; e compadece-te de nós, porque pecamos diante de ti.

2Hear, O Lord, and have mercy; for thou art merciful: and have pity upon us, because we have sinned before thee.

3Pois tu permaneces para sempre, e nós perecemos totalmente.

3For thou endurest for ever, and we perish utterly.

4Ó Senhor Todo-Poderoso, Deus de Israel, ouve agora as orações dos mortos de Israel e de seus filhos, que pecaram diante de ti e não deram ouvidos à voz de ti, seu Deus; por cuja causa estas pragas se apegam a nós.

4O Lord Almighty, thou God of Israel, hear now the prayers of the dead Israelites, and of their children, which have sinned before thee, and not hearkened unto the voice of thee their God: for the which cause these plagues cleave unto us.

5Não te lembres das iniquidades de nossos pais, mas lembra-te do teu poder e do teu nome neste tempo.

5Remember not the iniquities of our forefathers: but think upon thy power and thy name now at this time.

6Pois tu és o Senhor nosso Deus, e a ti, ó Senhor, louvaremos.

6For thou art the Lord our God, and thee, O Lord, will we praise.

7E por esta causa puseste o teu temor em nossos corações, para que invocássemos o teu nome e te louvássemos no nosso cativeiro; porque trouxemos à memória toda a iniquidade de nossos pais, que pecaram diante de ti.

7And for this cause thou hast put thy fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon thy name, and praise thee in our captivity: for we have called to mind all the iniquity of our forefathers, that sinned before thee.

8Eis que ainda hoje estamos no nosso cativeiro, para onde nos espalhaste, para opróbrio e maldição, e sujeitos a tributos, segundo todas as iniquidades de nossos pais, que se apartaram do Senhor nosso Deus.

8Behold, we are yet this day in our captivity, where thou hast scattered us, for a reproach and a curse, and to be subject to payments, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, which departed from the Lord our God.

9Ouve, Israel, os mandamentos da vida; inclina os ouvidos para conhecer a sabedoria.

9Hear, Israel, the commandments of life: give ear to understand wisdom.

10Por que é, ó Israel, que estás na terra dos teus inimigos, que envelheceste em terra estranha, que te contaminaste com os mortos,

10How happeneth it Israel, that thou art in thine enemies’ land, that thou art waxen old in a strange country, that thou art defiled with the dead,

11que és contado com os que descem à sepultura?

11That thou art counted with them that go down into the grave?

12Abandonaste a fonte da sabedoria.

12Thou hast forsaken the fountain of wisdom.

13Pois, se tivesses andado no caminho de Deus, terias habitado em paz para sempre.

13For if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou shouldest have dwelled in peace for ever.

14Aprende onde está a sabedoria, onde está a força, onde está o entendimento, para que saibas também onde está a longura de dias e a vida, onde está a luz dos olhos e a paz.

14Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding; that thou mayest know also where is length of days, and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace.

15Quem achou o lugar dela? Ou quem entrou nos seus tesouros?

15Who hath found out her place? or who hath come into her treasures?

16Onde estão os príncipes das nações, e os que dominavam os animais sobre a terra,

16Where are the princes of the heathen become, and such as ruled the beasts upon the earth;

17os que se divertiam com as aves do céu, e os que entesouravam prata e ouro, em que os homens confiam, e não punham fim às suas aquisições?

17They that had their pastime with the fowls of the air, and they that hoarded up silver and gold, wherein men trust, and made no end of their getting?

18Pois os que lavravam a prata com tanto cuidado, e cujas obras são inescrutáveis,

18For they that wrought in silver, and were so careful, and whose works are unsearchable,

19desapareceram e desceram à sepultura, e outros subiram em seu lugar.

19They are vanished and gone down to the grave, and others are come up in their steads.

20Os jovens viram a luz e habitaram sobre a terra, mas não conheceram o caminho do conhecimento,

20Young men have seen light, and dwelt upon the earth: but the way of knowledge have they not known,

21nem entenderam as suas veredas, nem o alcançaram; os seus filhos ficaram longe desse caminho.

21Nor understood the paths thereof, nor laid hold of it: their children were far off from that way.

22Não se ouviu falar dela em Canaã, nem foi vista em Temã.

22It hath not been heard of in Chanaan, neither hath it been seen in Theman.

23Os agarenos, que buscam a sabedoria sobre a terra, os mercadores de Merã e de Temã, os autores de fábulas e os que buscam o entendimento, nenhum deles conheceu o caminho da sabedoria, nem se lembra das suas veredas.

23The Agarenes that seek wisdom upon earth, the merchants of Meran and of Theman, the authors of fables, and searchers out of understanding; none of these have known the way of wisdom, or remember her paths.

24Ó Israel, quão grande é a casa de Deus! E quão vasto o lugar da sua possessão!

24O Israel, how great is the house of God! and how large is the place of his possession!

25Grande, e sem fim; alto, e imensurável.

25Great, and hath none end; high, and unmeasurable.

26Ali estavam os gigantes, famosos desde o princípio, de tão grande estatura e tão peritos na guerra.

26There were the giants famous from the beginning, that were of so great stature, and so expert in war.

27A esses o Senhor não escolheu, nem lhes deu o caminho do conhecimento;

27Those did not the Lord choose, neither gave he the way of knowledge unto them:

28mas foram destruídos, porque não tinham sabedoria, e pereceram pela sua própria loucura.

28But they were destroyed, because they had no wisdom, and perished through their own foolishness.

29Quem subiu ao céu, e a tomou, e a fez descer das nuvens?

29Who hath gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds?

30Quem atravessou o mar, e a achou, e a trará a troco de ouro puro?

30Who hath gone over the sea, and found her, and will bring her for pure gold?

31Ninguém conhece o seu caminho, nem pensa na sua vereda.

31No man knoweth her way, nor thinketh of her path.

32Mas aquele que sabe todas as coisas a conhece, e a descobriu com o seu entendimento; aquele que preparou a terra para sempre a encheu de animais quadrúpedes;

32But he that knoweth all things knoweth her, and hath found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore hath filled it with fourfooted beasts:

33aquele que envia a luz, e ela vai; chama-a de novo, e ela lhe obedece com temor.

33He that sendeth forth light, and it goeth, calleth it again, and it obeyeth him with fear.

34As estrelas brilharam nas suas vigílias e se alegraram; ele as chama, e elas dizem: Eis-nos aqui; e assim, com alegria, deram luz àquele que as fez.

34The stars shined in their watches, and rejoiced: when he calleth them, they say, Here we be; and so with cheerfulness they shewed light unto him that made them.

35Este é o nosso Deus, e nenhum outro será comparado a ele.

35This is our God, and there shall none other be accounted of in comparison of him

36Ele descobriu todo o caminho do conhecimento e o deu a Jacó, seu servo, e a Israel, seu amado.

36He hath found out all the way of knowledge, and hath given it unto Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved.

37Depois disso se mostrou sobre a terra e conviveu com os homens.

37Afterward did he shew himself upon earth, and conversed with men.
