Baruque 4

1Este é o livro dos mandamentos de Deus e a lei que permanece para sempre; todos os que a guardam chegarão à vida, mas os que a abandonam morrerão.

1This is the book of the commandments of God, and the law that endureth for ever: all they that keep it shall come to life; but such as leave it shall die.

2Converte-te, ó Jacó, e apega-te a ela; anda na presença da sua luz, para que sejas iluminado.

2Turn thee, O Jacob, and take hold of it: walk in the presence of the light thereof, that thou mayest be illuminated.

3Não dês a tua glória a outro, nem as coisas que te são proveitosas a uma nação estranha.

3Give not thine honour to another, nor the things that are profitable unto thee to a strange nation.

4Ó Israel, bem-aventurados somos nós, porque nos foi dado a conhecer o que agrada a Deus.

4O Israel, happy are we: for things that are pleasing to God are made known unto us.

5Tende bom ânimo, povo meu, memorial de Israel.

5Be of good cheer, my people, the memorial of Israel.

6Fostes vendidos às nações, não para a vossa destruição; mas, porque provocastes Deus à ira, fostes entregues aos inimigos.

6Ye were sold to the nations, not for your destruction: but because ye moved God to wrath, ye were delivered unto the enemies.

7Pois provocastes aquele que vos fez, sacrificando aos demônios e não a Deus.

7For ye provoked him that made you by sacrificing unto devils, and not to God.

8Esquecestes o Deus eterno, que vos criou, e entristecestes Jerusalém, que vos amamentou.

8Ye have forgotten the everlasting God, that brought you up; and ye have grieved Jerusalem, that nursed you.

9Pois, quando ela viu a ira de Deus vindo sobre vós, disse: Ouvi, ó vós que habitais ao redor de Sião; Deus trouxe sobre mim grande pranto;

9For when she saw the wrath of God coming upon you, she said, Hearken, O ye that dwell about Sion: God hath brought upon me great mourning;

10porque vi o cativeiro de meus filhos e filhas, que o Eterno trouxe sobre eles.

10For I saw the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Everlasting brought upon them.

11Com alegria os criei, mas os despedi com choro e pranto.

11With joy did I nourish them; but sent them away with weeping and mourning.

12Ninguém se alegre sobre mim, viúva e desamparada de muitos, que pelos pecados de meus filhos fiquei desolada, porque se apartaram da lei de Deus.

12Let no man rejoice over me, a widow, and forsaken of many, who for the sins of my children am left desolate; because they departed from the law of God.

13Não conheceram os seus estatutos, nem andaram nos caminhos dos seus mandamentos, nem trilharam as veredas da disciplina na sua justiça.

13They knew not his statutes, nor walked in the ways of his commandments, nor trod in the paths of discipline in his righteousness.

14Venham os que habitam ao redor de Sião, e lembrai-vos do cativeiro de meus filhos e filhas, que o Eterno trouxe sobre eles.

14Let them that dwell about Sion come, and remember ye the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Everlasting hath brought upon them.

15Pois trouxe sobre eles uma nação de longe, nação desavergonhada e de língua estranha, que não respeitou o velho nem teve compaixão da criança.

15For he hath brought a nation upon them from far, a shameless nation, and of a strange language, who neither reverenced old man, nor pitied child.

16Estes levaram os queridos filhos da viúva e deixaram desolada, sem filhas, a que estava sozinha.

16These have carried away the dear beloved children of the widow, and left her that was alone desolate without daughters.

17Mas em que vos posso eu ajudar?

17But what can I help you?

18Pois aquele que trouxe estas pragas sobre vós vos livrará das mãos dos vossos inimigos.

18For he that brought these plagues upon you will deliver you from the hands of your enemies.

19Ide, ó meus filhos, ide; porque eu fiquei desolada.

19Go your way, O my children, go your way: for I am left desolate.

20Despi as vestes da paz e vesti o saco da minha súplica; clamarei ao Eterno enquanto eu viver.

20I have put off the clothing of peace, and put upon me the sackcloth of my prayer: I will cry unto the Everlasting in my days.

21Tende bom ânimo, ó meus filhos, clamai ao Senhor, e ele vos livrará do poder e da mão dos inimigos.

21Be of good cheer, O my children, cry unto the Lord, and he will deliver you from the power and hand of the enemies.

22Pois a minha esperança está no Eterno, de que ele vos salvará; e veio-me alegria da parte do Santo, por causa da misericórdia que em breve vos virá do Eterno, nosso Salvador.

22For my hope is in the Everlasting, that he will save you; and joy is come unto me from the Holy One, because of the mercy which shall soon come unto you from the Everlasting our Saviour.

23Pois eu vos despedi com pranto e choro, mas Deus vos devolverá a mim com gozo e alegria para sempre.

23For I sent you out with mourning and weeping: but God will give you to me again with joy and gladness for ever.

24Assim como agora os vizinhos de Sião viram o vosso cativeiro, assim verão em breve a vossa salvação da parte do nosso Deus, que virá sobre vós com grande glória e com o resplendor do Eterno.

24Like as now the neighbours of Sion have seen your captivity: so shall they see shortly your salvation from our God which shall come upon you with great glory, and brightness of the Everlasting.

25Meus filhos, sofrei com paciência a ira que da parte de Deus veio sobre vós; porque o teu inimigo te perseguiu, mas em breve verás a sua destruição e pisarás sobre o seu pescoço.

25My children, suffer patiently the wrath that is come upon you from God: for thine enemy hath persecuted thee; but shortly thou shalt see his destruction, and shalt tread upon his neck.

26Os meus delicados andaram por caminhos ásperos; foram levados como rebanho arrebatado pelos inimigos.

26My delicate ones have gone rough ways, and were taken away as a flock caught of the enemies.

27Tende bom ânimo, ó meus filhos, e clamai a Deus; porque sereis lembrados por aquele que trouxe estas coisas sobre vós.

27Be of good comfort, O my children, and cry unto God: for ye shall be remembered of him that brought these things upon you.

28Pois, assim como o vosso intento foi desviar-vos de Deus, assim, uma vez convertidos, buscai-o dez vezes mais.

28For as it was your mind to go astray from God: so, being returned, seek him ten times more.

29Pois aquele que trouxe estas pragas sobre vós vos trará alegria eterna com a vossa salvação.

29For he that hath brought these plagues upon you shall bring you everlasting joy with your salvation.

30Tem bom ânimo, ó Jerusalém, porque aquele que te deu esse nome te consolará.

30Take a good heart, O Jerusalem: for he that gave thee that name will comfort thee.

31Miseráveis são os que te afligiram e se alegraram com a tua queda.

31Miserable are they that afflicted thee, and rejoiced at thy fall.

32Miseráveis são as cidades a que os teus filhos serviram; miserável é a que recebeu os teus filhos.

32Miserable are the cities which thy children served: miserable is she that received thy sons.

33Pois, assim como ela se alegrou com a tua ruína e se regozijou com a tua queda, assim se entristecerá com a sua própria desolação.

33For as she rejoiced at thy ruin, and was glad of thy fall: so shall she be grieved for her own desolation.

34Pois tirarei o regozijo da sua grande multidão, e o seu orgulho se converterá em pranto.

34For I will take away the rejoicing of her great multitude, and her pride shall be turned into mourning.

35Pois fogo virá sobre ela da parte do Eterno, por longos dias; e será habitada por demônios por muito tempo.

35For fire shall come upon her from the Everlasting, long to endure; and she shall be inhabited of devils for a great time.

36Ó Jerusalém, olha em redor, para o oriente, e vê a alegria que te vem de Deus.

36O Jerusalem, look about thee toward the east, and behold the joy that cometh unto thee from God.

37Eis que vêm os teus filhos, que despediste; vêm reunidos do oriente ao ocidente pela palavra do Santo, alegrando-se na glória de Deus.

37Lo, thy sons come, whom thou sentest away, they come gathered together from the east to the west by the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God.
