1E José levantou-se e disse a Anás e a Caifás: Verdadeiramente e com razão vos maravilhais, porquanto ouvistes que Jesus foi visto vivo dentre os mortos, subindo ao céu.

1And Joseph rose up and said to Annas and Caiaphas: Truly and well do you wonder, since you have heard that Jesus has been seen alive from the dead, ascending up into heaven.

2Mas é ainda mais maravilhoso que Ele não seja o único que ressuscitou dos mortos: pois ressuscitou vivos de seus sepulcros a muitos outros dentre os mortos, e eles foram vistos por muitos em Jerusalém.

2But it is more to be wondered at that he is not the only one who has risen from the dead: but he has raised up alive out of their tombs many others of the dead, and they have been seen by many in Jerusalem.

3E ouvi-me agora, pois todos nós conhecemos o bendito Simeão, o grande sacerdote, que tomou Jesus nos seus braços, quando menino, no templo.

3And hear me now, that we all know the blessed Simeon, the great priest, who took up with his hands Jesus, when an infant, in the temple.

4E o próprio Simeão tinha dois filhos, irmãos carnais; e todos nós estivemos no seu adormecimento e no seu sepultamento.

4And Simeon himself had two sons, full brothers; and we all were at their falling asleep, and at their burial.

5Ide, pois, e vede os seus sepulcros: porque estão abertos, visto que ressuscitaram; e eis que estão na cidade de Arimateia, vivendo juntos em oração.

5Go, therefore, and see their tombs: for they are open, because they have risen; and, behold, they are in the city of Arimathæa, living together in prayers.

6E, com efeito, ouve-se que clamam, mas não falam com ninguém, e permanecem calados como os mortos.

6And, indeed, they are heard crying out, but speaking with nobody, and they are silent as the dead.

7Mas vinde, vamos até eles; conduzamo-los a nós com toda a honra e respeito.

7But come, let us go to them; let us conduct them to us with all honour and respect.

8E se os conjurarmos, talvez nos falem acerca do mistério de sua ressurreição.

8And if we adjure them, perhaps they will speak to us of the mystery of their resurrection.

9Ao ouvirem isto, todos se alegraram.

9At hearing this they all rejoiced.

10E Anás e Caifás, Nicodemos, José e Gamaliel foram, e não os acharam em seus sepulcros; mas, caminhando até a cidade de Arimateia, acharam-nos ali, postos de joelhos e dedicando o seu tempo à oração.

10And Annas and Caiaphas, Nicodemus, and Joseph, and Gamaliel, went, and did not find them in their sepulchres; but, walking into the city of Arimathea, they found them there, on their bended knees, and spending their time in prayer.

11E, beijando-os, conduziram-nos a Jerusalém, para dentro da sinagoga, com toda a veneração e temor de Deus.

11And kissing them, they conducted them to Jerusalem, into the synagogue, with all veneration and fear of God.

12E fechando as portas, e levantando a lei do Senhor, puseram-na em suas mãos, conjurando-os pelo Deus Adonai e pelo Deus de Israel, que pela lei e pelos profetas falou a nossos pais, dizendo: Credes que foi Jesus quem vos ressuscitou dos mortos?

12And shutting the doors, and lifting up the law of the Lord, they put it in their hands, adjuring them by the God Adonai, and the God of Israel, who by the law and the prophets spoke to our fathers, saying: Do you believe that it was Jesus who raised you from the dead?

13Dizei-nos como ressuscitastes dos mortos.

13Tell us how you have risen from the dead.

14Carino e Lêucio, ouvindo esta conjuração, tremeram em seus corpos e gemeram, perturbados no coração.

14Karinus and Leucius, hearing this adjuration, trembled in their body, and groaned, being disturbed in heart.

15E juntos olharam para o céu, e com os dedos fizeram o sinal da cruz em suas línguas, e imediatamente falaram juntos, dizendo: Dai a cada um de nós folhas de papel, e escrevamos o que vimos e ouvimos.

15And together they looked towards heaven, and with their fingers made the sign of the cross on their tongues, and immediately they spoke together, saying: Give each of us sheets of paper, and let us write what we have seen and heard.

16E deram-lhes.

16And they gave it to them.

17E assentaram-se, e cada um deles escreveu, dizendo:—

17And they sat down, and each of them wrote, saying:—
