Eclesiástico 51

1Dar-te-ei graças, ó Senhor e Rei, e te louvarei, ó Deus, meu Salvador; louvo o teu nome;

1I will thank thee, O Lord and King, and praise thee, O God my Saviour: I do give praise unto thy name:

2pois tu és o meu defensor e ajudador, e preservaste o meu corpo da destruição, e do laço da língua caluniadora, e dos lábios que forjam mentiras, e foste o meu ajudador contra os meus adversários;

2For thou art my defender and helper, and hast preserved my body from destruction, and from the snare of the slanderous tongue, and from the lips that forge lies, and hast been mine helper against mine adversaries:

3e me livraste, segundo a multidão das tuas misericórdias e a grandeza do teu nome, dos dentes dos que estavam prontos para me devorar, e das mãos dos que buscavam a minha vida, e das múltiplas aflições que tive;

3And hast delivered me, according to the multitude of thy mercies and greatness of thy name, from the teeth of them that were ready to devour me, and out of the hands of such as sought after my life, and from the manifold afflictions which I had;

4da sufocação do fogo de todos os lados, e do meio do fogo que eu não acendi;

4From the choking of fire on every side, and from the midst of the fire which I kindled not;

5da profundeza do ventre do inferno, da língua imunda e das palavras mentirosas.

5From the depth of the belly of hell, from an unclean tongue, and from lying words.

6Por uma acusação ao rei, feita por uma língua injusta, a minha alma chegou perto da morte; a minha vida estava perto do inferno profundo.

6By an accusation to the king from an unrighteous tongue my soul drew near even unto death, my life was near to the hell beneath.

7Rodearam-me de todos os lados, e não havia quem me ajudasse; busquei o socorro dos homens, mas não havia nenhum.

7They compassed me on every side, and there was no man to help me: I looked for the succour of men, but there was none.

8Então me lembrei da tua misericórdia, ó Senhor, e dos teus feitos antigos, de como livras os que esperam em ti e os salvas das mãos dos inimigos.

8Then thought I upon thy mercy, O Lord, and upon thy acts of old, how thou deliverest such as wait for thee, and savest them out of the hands of the enemies.

9Então levantei da terra as minhas súplicas, e orei pelo livramento da morte.

9Then lifted I up my supplications from the earth, and prayed for deliverance from death.

10Invoquei o Senhor, o Pai do meu Senhor, para que não me deixasse nos dias da minha angústia, e no tempo dos soberbos, quando não havia socorro.

10I called upon the Lord, the Father of my Lord, that he would not leave me in the days of my trouble, and in the time of the proud, when there was no help.

11Louvarei o teu nome continuamente, e cantarei louvores com ações de graças; e assim a minha oração foi ouvida;

11I will praise thy name continually, and will sing praises with thanksgiving; and so my prayer was heard:

12pois me salvaste da destruição, e me livraste do tempo mau; por isso te darei graças, e te louvarei, e bendirei o teu nome, ó Senhor.

12For thou savedst me from destruction, and deliveredst me from the evil time: therefore will I give thanks, and praise thee, and bless thy name, O Lord.

13Quando eu ainda era jovem, antes de sair pelo mundo, desejei abertamente a sabedoria na minha oração.

13When I was yet young, or ever I went abroad, I desired wisdom openly in my prayer.

14Pedi-a diante do templo, e a buscarei até o fim.

14I prayed for her before the temple, and will seek her out even to the end.

15Desde a flor até que a uva amadureceu, o meu coração se deleitou nela; o meu pé andou pelo caminho reto; desde a minha mocidade a busquei.

15Even from the flower till the grape was ripe hath my heart delighted in her: my foot went the right way, from my youth up sought I after her.

16Inclinei um pouco o meu ouvido e a recebi, e alcancei muita instrução.

16I bowed down mine ear a little, and received her, and gat much learning.

17Aproveitei nela; por isso darei glória àquele que me dá a sabedoria.

17I profited therein, therefore will I ascribe glory unto him that giveth me wisdom.

18Pois propus proceder segundo ela, e segui com empenho o que é bom; assim não serei confundido.

18For I purposed to do after her, and earnestly I followed that which is good; so shall I not be confounded.

19A minha alma lutou com ela, e nas minhas ações fui exato; estendi as mãos para o céu no alto, e lamentei a minha ignorância dela.

19My soul hath wrestled with her, and in my doings I was exact: I stretched forth my hands to the heaven above, and bewailed my ignorances of her.

20Dirigi a minha alma para ela, e a achei na pureza; tive o meu coração unido a ela desde o princípio; por isso não serei desamparado.

20I directed my soul unto her, and I found her in pureness: I have had my heart joined with her from the beginning, therefore shall I not be forsaken.

21O meu coração se inquietou ao buscá-la; por isso alcancei uma boa possessão.

21My heart was troubled in seeking her: therefore have I gotten a good possession.

22O Senhor me deu uma língua como recompensa, e com ela o louvarei.

22The Lord hath given me a tongue for my reward, and I will praise him therewith.

23Chegai-vos a mim, vós, indoutos, e habitai na casa da instrução.

23Draw near unto me, ye unlearned, and dwell in the house of learning.

24Por que sois lentos, e que dizeis a estas coisas, visto que as vossas almas estão muito sedentas?

24Wherefore are ye slow, and what say ye to these things, seeing your souls are very thirsty?

25Abri a minha boca e disse: Comprai-a para vós sem dinheiro.

25I opened my mouth, and said, Buy her for yourselves without money.

26Ponde o vosso pescoço debaixo do jugo, e receba a vossa alma a instrução; ela está bem perto para ser achada.

26Put your neck under the yoke, and let your soul receive instruction: she is hard at hand to find.

27Vede com os vossos olhos como tive pouco trabalho e alcancei para mim muito descanso.

27Behold with your eyes, how that I have but little labour, and have gotten unto me much rest.

28Adquiri a instrução com grande soma de dinheiro, e ganhai muito ouro por meio dela.

28Get learning with a great sum of money, and get much gold by her.

29Alegre-se a vossa alma na sua misericórdia, e não vos envergonheis do seu louvor.

29Let your soul rejoice in his mercy, and be not ashamed of his praise.

30Fazei a vossa obra a tempo, e no seu tempo ele vos dará a vossa recompensa.

30Work your work betimes, and in his time he will give you your reward.
