Epístola de Barnabé 7

1Entendei, portanto, filhos da alegria, que o bom Senhor nos manifestou todas as coisas de antemão, para que soubéssemos a quem devemos, em tudo, render ações de graças e louvor.

1Understand therefore, children of gladness, that the good Lord manifested all things to us beforehand, that we might know to whom we ought in all things to render thanksgiving and praise.

2Se, então, o Filho de Deus, sendo Senhor e futuro Juiz de vivos e mortos, sofreu para que a Sua ferida nos desse vida, creiamos que o Filho de Deus não poderia sofrer senão por nossa causa.

2If then the Son of God, being Lord and future Judge of quick and dead, suffered that His wound might give us life, let us believe that the Son of God could not suffer except for our sakes.

3Mas além disso, quando crucificado, deram-Lhe vinagre e fel para beber. Ouvi como os sacerdotes do templo revelaram acerca deste assunto. Havendo um mandamento na Escritura: Todo aquele que não observar o jejum certamente morrerá, o Senhor ordenou, porque Ele havia de oferecer, na Sua própria pessoa, o vaso do Seu Espírito em sacrifício pelos nossos pecados, para que também se cumprisse o tipo que foi dado em Isaque, que foi oferecido sobre o altar.

3But moreover when crucified He had vinegar and gall given Him to drink. Hear how on this matter the priests of the temple have revealed. Seeing that there is a commandment in scripture, Whatsoever shall not observe the fast shall surely die, the Lord commanded, because He was in His own person about to offer the vessel of His Spirit a sacrifice for our sins, that the type also which was given in Isaac who was offered upon the altar should be fulfilled.

4Que diz, então, no profeta? E comam do bode que é oferecido no jejum por todos os seus pecados. Atendei com cuidado: E que somente os sacerdotes comam as entranhas não lavadas com vinagre.

4What then saith He in the prophet? And let them eat of the goat that is offered at the fast for all their sins. Attend carefully; And let all the priests alone eat the entrails unwashed with vinegar.

5Por quê? Visto que haveis de dar-Me, a Mim, que hei de oferecer a Minha carne pelos pecados do Meu novo povo, fel com vinagre para beber, comei vós sozinhos, enquanto o povo jejua e lamenta em saco e cinzas; para mostrar que devia sofrer às mãos deles.

5Wherefore? Since ye are to give Me, who am to offer My flesh for the sins of My new people, gall with vinegar to drink, eat ye alone, while the people fasteth and waileth in sackcloth and ashes; that He might shew that He must suffer at their hands.

6Atendei aos mandamentos que Ele deu. Tomai dois bodes, belos e iguais, e oferecei-os, e que o sacerdote tome um para holocausto pelos pecados.

6Attend ye to the commandments which He gave. Take two goats, fair and alike, and offer them, and let the priest take the one for a whole burnt offering for sins.

7Mas o outro--que devem fazer com ele? Maldito, diz Ele, é um. Prestai atenção a como o tipo de Jesus é revelado.

7But the other one--what must they do with it? Accursed, saith He, is the one. Give heed how the type of Jesus is revealed.

8E cuspi todos vós sobre ele e picai-o, e colocai lã escarlate ao redor da sua cabeça, e assim seja lançado ao deserto. E quando isso assim é feito, aquele que leva o bode ao deserto o conduz, e tira a lã, e a põe sobre o ramo que se chama Raquia, o mesmo de cujos rebentos costumamos comer quando os achamos no campo. Somente desta sarça o fruto é assim doce.

8And do ye all spit upon it and goad it, and place scarlet wool about its head, and so let it be cast into the wilderness. And when it is so done, he that taketh the goat into the wilderness leadeth it, and taketh off the wool, and putteth it upon the branch which is called Rachia, the same whereof we are wont to eat the shoots when we find them in the country. Of this briar alone is the fruit thus sweet.

9Que significa, então, isto? Prestai atenção. Um no altar, e o outro maldito. E além disso o maldito coroado. Pois O verão naquele dia usando o longo manto escarlate sobre a Sua carne, e dirão: Não é este Aquele a quem outrora crucificamos e desprezamos e cuspimos; em verdade era este Aquele que então disse que era o Filho de Deus.

9What then meaneth this? Give heed. The one at the altar, and the other accursed. And moreover the accursed one crowned. For they shall see Him in that day wearing the long scarlet robe about His flesh, and shall say, Is not this He, Whom once we crucified and set at nought and spat upon; verily this was He, Who then said that He was the Son of God.

10Pois como é Ele semelhante ao bode? Por esta razão diz que os bodes sejam belos e iguais, para que, quando O virem então vindo, fiquem assombrados com a semelhança do bode. Vede, portanto, o tipo de Jesus que havia de sofrer.

10For how is He like the goat? For this reason it says the goats shall be fair and alike, that, when they shall see Him coming then, they may be astonished at the likeness of the goat. Therefore behold the type of Jesus that was to suffer.

11Mas que significa que ponham a lã no meio dos espinhos? É um tipo de Jesus apresentado para a Igreja, pois quem quisesse tirar a lã escarlate devia sofrer muitas coisas devido à natureza terrível do espinho, e por meio da aflição obter domínio sobre ele. Assim, diz Ele, os que desejam ver-Me e alcançar o Meu reino devem apoderar-se de Mim por meio da tribulação e da aflição.

11But what meaneth it, that they place the wool in the midst of the thorns? It is a type of Jesus set forth for the Church, since whosoever should desire to take away the scarlet wool it behoved him to suffer many things owing to the terrible nature of the thorn, and through affliction to win the mastery over it. Thus, He saith, they that desire to see Me, and to attain unto My kingdom, must lay hold on Me through tribulation and affliction.
