Ester (Grego) 13

1Esta era a cópia da carta: O grande rei Artaxerxes escreve estas coisas aos príncipes e governadores que estão sob o seu domínio, desde a Índia até a Etiópia, em cento e vinte e sete províncias.

1The copy of the letters was this: The great king Artexerxes writeth these things to the princes and governours that are under him from India unto Ethiopia in an hundred and seven and twenty provinces.

2Depois que me tornei senhor de muitas nações e tive domínio sobre todo o mundo, não me exaltando pela presunção da minha autoridade, mas procedendo sempre com equidade e brandura, propus-me estabelecer os meus súditos numa vida sempre tranquila, e, tornando o meu reino pacífico e transitável até as últimas fronteiras, renovar a paz que todos os homens desejam.

2After that I became lord over many nations and had dominion over the whole world, not lifted up with presumption of my authority, but carrying myself always with equity and mildness, I purposed to settle my subjects continually in a quiet life, and making my kingdom peaceable, and open for passage to the utmost coasts, to renew peace, which is desired of all men.

3Ora, quando perguntei aos meus conselheiros como isto se poderia realizar, Amã, que se distinguia entre nós em sabedoria e era aprovado pela sua constante benevolência e firme fidelidade, e tinha a honra do segundo lugar no reino,

3Now when I asked my counsellors how this might be brought to pass, Aman, that excelled in wisdom among us, and was approved for his constant good will and steadfast fidelity, and had the honour of the second place in the kingdom,

4declarou-nos que em todas as nações do mundo estava espalhado um povo malicioso, que tinha leis contrárias a todas as nações e desprezava continuamente os mandamentos dos reis, de modo que a unificação dos nossos reinos, por nós honrosamente pretendida, não pode prosseguir.

4Declared unto us, that in all nations throughout the world there was scattered a certain malicious people, that had laws contrary to all nations, and continually despised the commandments of kings, so as the uniting of our kingdoms, honourably intended by us cannot go forward.

5Entendendo, pois, que só este povo está continuamente em oposição a todos os homens, diferindo pelo estranho modo das suas leis, e é mal-intencionado para com o nosso governo, fazendo todo o mal que pode para que o nosso reino não se estabeleça firmemente,

5Seeing then we understand that this people alone is continually in opposition unto all men, differing in the strange manner of their laws, and evil affected to our state, working all the mischief they can that our kingdom may not be firmly established:

6ordenamos que todos os que vos forem indicados por escrito por Amã, que está encarregado dos negócios e é o segundo depois de nós, sejam todos, com suas mulheres e filhos, completamente destruídos pela espada dos seus inimigos, sem nenhuma misericórdia nem compaixão, no décimo quarto dia do duodécimo mês, Adar, deste presente ano,

6Therefore have we commanded, that all they that are signified in writing unto you by Aman, who is ordained over the affairs, and is next unto us, shall all, with their wives and children, be utterly destroyed by the sword of their enemies, without all mercy and pity, the fourteenth day of the twelfth month Adar of this present year:

7para que aqueles que outrora e agora são malévolos desçam num só dia, violentamente, à sepultura, e assim daqui em diante os nossos negócios fiquem bem estabelecidos e sem perturbação.

7That they, who of old and now also are malicious, may in one day with violence go into the grave, and so ever hereafter cause our affairs to be well settled, and without trouble.

8Então Mardoqueu pensou em todas as obras do Senhor e lhe fez a sua oração,

8Then Mardocheus thought upon all the works of the Lord, and made his prayer unto him,

9dizendo: Ó Senhor, Senhor, Rei Todo-Poderoso, porque todo o universo está em teu poder, e, se determinaste salvar Israel, não há ninguém que te possa contradizer;

9Saying, O Lord, Lord, the King Almighty: for the whole world is in thy power, and if thou hast appointed to save Israel, there is no man that can gainsay thee:

10pois tu fizeste o céu e a terra e todas as maravilhas que há debaixo do céu.

10For thou hast made heaven and earth, and all the wondrous things under the heaven.

11Tu és Senhor de todas as coisas, e não há ninguém que te possa resistir, a ti, que és o Senhor.

11Thou art Lord of all things, and there is no man that can resist thee, which art the Lord.

12Tu conheces todas as coisas, e sabes, Senhor, que não foi por desprezo nem por soberba, nem por desejo algum de glória, que eu não me prostrei diante do soberbo Amã.

12Thou knowest all things, and thou knowest, Lord, that it was neither in contempt nor pride, nor for any desire of glory, that I did not bow down to proud Aman.

13Pois eu teria de boa vontade beijado as plantas dos seus pés, pela salvação de Israel.

13For I could have been content with good will for the salvation of Israel to kiss the soles of his feet.

14Mas fiz isto para não pôr a glória do homem acima da glória de Deus; nem me prostrarei diante de ninguém, senão de ti, ó meu Senhor, e não o farei por soberba.

14But I did this, that I might not prefer the glory of man above the glory of God: neither will I worship any but thee, O God, neither will I do it in pride.

15E agora, ó Senhor Deus e Rei, poupa o teu povo; porque os seus olhos estão sobre nós para nos aniquilar; sim, desejam destruir a herança que é tua desde o princípio.

15And now, O Lord God and King, spare thy people: for their eyes are upon us to bring us to nought; yea, they desire to destroy the inheritance, that hath been thine from the beginning.

16Não desprezes a porção que resgataste para ti do Egito.

16Despise not the portion, which thou hast delivered out of Egypt for thine own self.

17Ouve a minha oração e sê propício à tua herança; converte o nosso pranto em alegria, para que vivamos, ó Senhor, e louvemos o teu nome; e não faças perecer a boca dos que te louvam, ó Senhor.

17Hear my prayer, and be merciful unto thine inheritance: turn our sorrow into joy, that we may live, O Lord, and praise thy name: and destroy not the mouths of them that praise thee, O Lord.

18E todo Israel, do mesmo modo, clamou com todas as forças ao Senhor, porque a morte estava diante dos seus olhos.

18All Israel in like manner cried most earnestly unto the Lord, because their death was before their eyes.
