Inácio aos Efésios 5

1Pois se eu em tão pouco tempo tive tamanha convivência com o vosso bispo, a qual não foi segundo o modo dos homens, mas no Espírito, quanto mais vos felicito a vós, que estais tão estreitamente unidos a ele como a Igreja está com Jesus Cristo e como Jesus Cristo está com o Pai, para que todas as coisas sejam harmoniosas em unidade.

1For if I in a short time had such converse with your bishop, which was not after the manner of men but in the Spirit, how much more do I congratulate you who are closely joined with him as the Church is with Jesus Christ and as Jesus Christ is with the Father, that all things may be harmonious in unity.

2Ninguém se engane. Se alguém não estiver dentro do recinto do altar, carece do pão de Deus. Pois se a oração de um e de outro tem tanta força, quanto mais a do bispo e a de toda a Igreja.

2Let no man be deceived. If any one be not within the precinct of the altar, he lacketh the bread of God. For, if the prayer of one and another hath so great force, how much more that of the bishop and of the whole Church.

3Aquele, portanto, que não comparece à congregação demonstra nisso o seu orgulho e a si mesmo se separou; pois está escrito: Deus resiste aos soberbos. Sejamos, pois, cuidadosos para não resistir ao bispo, a fim de que, por nossa submissão, nos entreguemos a Deus.

3Whosoever therefore cometh not to the congregation, he doth thereby show his pride and hath separated himself; for it is written, God resisteth the proud. Let us therefore be careful not to resist the bishop, that by our submission we may give ourselves to God.
