Inácio aos Esmirniotas 11

1A vossa oração chegou até à igreja que está em Antioquia da Síria; de onde, vindo preso em cadeias mui piedosas, saúdo a todos, ainda que não seja digno de a ela pertencer, sendo o último de todos eles. Pela vontade divina me foi isto concedido, não por meu merecimento, mas pela graça de Deus, a qual rogo que me seja plenamente concedida, a fim de que por vossas orações eu alcance a Deus.

1Your prayer sped forth unto the church which is in Antioch of Syria; whence coming a prisoner in most godly bonds I salute all men, though I am not worthy to belong to it, being the very last of them. By the Divine will was this vouchsafed to me, not of my own complicity, but by God's grace, which I pray may be given to me perfectly, that through your prayers I may attain unto God.

2Portanto, para que a vossa obra seja aperfeiçoada na terra e no céu, convém que a vossa igreja designe, para honra de Deus, um embaixador de Deus, para que vá até à Síria e se congratule com eles por estarem em paz e haverem recuperado a sua devida estatura e de lhes ter sido restituída a sua devida corpulência.

2Therefore that your work may be perfected both on earth and in heaven, it is meet that your church should appoint, for the honour of God, an ambassador of God that he may go as far as Syria and congratulate them because they are at peace, and have recovered their proper stature, and their proper bulk hath been restored to them.

3Pareceu-me, pois, coisa conveniente que envieis alguém dos vossos com uma carta, para que juntamente com eles dê glória pela bonança que pela vontade de Deus lhes sobreveio, e por haverem já chegado a porto seguro mediante as vossas orações. Sendo vós perfeitos, sejam também perfeitos os vossos desígnios; pois querendo vós agir bem, Deus está pronto para ministrar os meios.

3It seemed to me therefore a fitting thing that ye should send one of your own people with a letter, that he might join with them in giving glory for the calm which by God's will had overtaken them, and because they were already reaching a haven through your prayers. Seeing ye are perfect, let your counsels also be perfect; for if ye desire to do well, God is ready to grant the means.
