José de Arimatéia 1

1Eu sou José de Arimateia, que pedi a Pilatos o corpo do Senhor Jesus para a sepultura, e que por essa causa fui mantido fechado na prisão pelos judeus homicidas e rebeldes contra Deus, os quais também, apegando-se à lei, tornaram-se participantes da tribulação pelo próprio Moisés; e, tendo provocado o seu Legislador à ira, e não sabendo que Ele era Deus, crucificaram-no, e o manifestaram àqueles que conheciam a Deus.

1I am Joseph of Arimathaea, who begged from Pilate the body of the Lord Jesus for burial, and who for this cause was kept close in prison by the murderous and God-fighting Jews, who also, keeping to the law, have by Moses himself become partakers in tribulation; and having provoked their Lawgiver to anger, and not knowing that He was God, crucified Him, and made Him manifest to those that knew God.

2Naqueles dias em que condenaram o Filho de Deus para ser crucificado, sete dias antes de Cristo padecer, dois salteadores condenados foram enviados de Jericó ao procurador Pilatos; e o caso deles era o seguinte:

2In those days in which they condemned the Son of God to be crucified, seven days before Christ suffered, two condemned robbers were sent from Jericho to the procurator Pilate; and their case was as follows:

3O primeiro, cujo nome era Gestas, matava os viajantes, assassinando-os com a espada, e a outros desnudava e expunha.

3The first, his name Gestas, put travellers to death, murdering them with the sword, and others he exposed naked.

4E pendurava mulheres pelos calcanhares, de cabeça para baixo, e cortava-lhes os seios, e bebia o sangue dos membros dos infantes, nunca tendo conhecido a Deus, não obedecendo às leis, sendo violento desde o princípio e praticando tais abominações.

4And he hung up women by the heels, head down, and cut off their breasts, and drank the blood of infants' limbs, never having known God, not obeying the laws, being violent from the beginning, and doing such deeds.

5E o caso do outro era o seguinte: chamava-se Dimas, e era galileu de nascimento, e mantinha uma estalagem.

5And the case of the other was as follows: He was called Demas, and was by birth a Galilaean, and kept an inn.

6Ele assaltava os ricos, mas fazia o bem aos pobres — um ladrão semelhante a Tobias, pois sepultava os corpos dos necessitados.

6He made attacks upon the rich, but was good to the poor—a thief like Tobit, for he buried the bodies of the poor.

7E pôs a sua mão a despojar a multidão dos judeus, e roubou a própria lei em Jerusalém, e despiu a filha de Caifás, que era sacerdotisa do santuário, e tirou do seu lugar o próprio depósito misterioso ali colocado por Salomão.

7And he set his hand to robbing the multitude of the Jews, and stole the law itself in Jerusalem, and stripped naked the daughter of Caiaphas, who was priestess of the sanctuary, and took away from its place the mysterious deposit itself placed there by Solomon.

8Tais eram as suas obras.

8Such were his doings.

9E Jesus também foi preso no terceiro dia antes da páscoa, ao entardecer.

9And Jesus also was taken on the third day before the passover, in the evening.

10E para Caifás e a multidão dos judeus aquilo não foi páscoa, mas tornou-se-lhes em grande luto, por causa do saque do santuário pelo salteador.

10And to Caiaphas and the multitude of the Jews it was not a passover, but it was a great mourning to them, on account of the plundering of the sanctuary by the robber.

11E mandaram chamar Judas Iscariotes e falaram com ele, pois era sobrinho de Caifás, o sacerdote.

11And they summoned Judas Iscariot, and spoke to him, for he was son of the brother of Caiaphas the priest.

12Ele não era discípulo sincero perante a face de Jesus; porém toda a multidão dos judeus astutamente o sustentava, para que seguisse a Jesus, não para que fosse obediente aos milagres por Ele operados, nem para que O confessasse, mas para que O entregasse a eles, desejando apanhar alguma palavra enganosa Dele, dando-lhe recompensas por tal conduta supostamente honrada no valor de meio siclo de ouro por dia.

12He was not a disciple before the face of Jesus; but all the multitude of the Jews craftily supported him, that he might follow Jesus, not that he might be obedient to the miracles done by Him, nor that he might confess Him, but that he might betray Him to them, wishing to catch up some lying word of Him, giving him gifts for such brave, honest conduct to the amount of a half shekel of gold each day.

13E ele fez isso durante dois anos com Jesus, como afirma um dos Seus discípulos chamado João.

13And he did this for two years with Jesus, as says one of His disciples called John.

14E no terceiro dia, antes de Jesus ser detido, Judas disse aos judeus: Vinde, reunamos um conselho; pois porventura não foi o salteador que roubou a lei, mas o próprio Jesus, e eu o acuso.

14And on the third day, before Jesus was laid hold of, Judas says to the Jews: Come, let us hold a council; for perhaps it was not the robber that stole the law, but Jesus himself, and I accuse him.

15E quando estas palavras foram proferidas, Nicodemos, que guardava as chaves do santuário, veio até nós e disse a todos: Não façais tal coisa.

15And when these words had been spoken, Nicodemus, who kept the keys of the sanctuary, came in to us, and said to all: Do not do such a deed.

16Pois Nicodemos era verdadeiro, mais do que toda a multidão dos judeus.

16For Nicodemus was true, more than all the multitude of the Jews.

17E a filha de Caifás, por nome Sara, clamou e disse: Ele mesmo declarou perante todos contra este lugar santo: Posso destruir este templo e em três dias reedificá-lo.

17And the daughter of Caiaphas, Sarah by name, cried out, and said: He himself said before all against this holy place, I am able to destroy this temple, and in three days to raise it.

18Os judeus disseram-lhe: Tu tens crédito diante de todos nós.

18The Jews say to her: Thou hast credit with all of us.

19Pois a consideravam como profetisa.

19For they regarded her as a prophetess.

20E com certeza, depois de celebrado o conselho, Jesus foi preso.

20And assuredly, after the council had been held, Jesus was laid hold of.
