Judite 14

1Então Judite lhes disse: Ouvi-me agora, meus irmãos, e tomai esta cabeça e pendurai-a no lugar mais alto dos vossos muros.

1Then said Judith unto them, Hear me now, my brethren, and take this head, and hang it upon the highest place of your walls.

2E, logo que aparecer a manhã e o sol sair sobre a terra, tomai cada um as suas armas, e saia da cidade todo homem valente, e ponde sobre eles um capitão, como se quisésseis descer à planície contra a sentinela dos assírios; mas não desçais.

2And so soon as the morning shall appear, and the sun shall come forth upon the earth, take ye every one his weapons, and go forth every valiant man out of the city, and set ye a captain over them, as though ye would go down into the field toward the watch of the Assyrians; but go not down.

3Então eles tomarão as suas armas e irão ao seu acampamento, e despertarão os capitães do exército de Assur, e correrão à tenda de Holofernes, mas não o acharão; então o medo cairá sobre eles, e fugirão diante de vós.

3Then they shall take their armour, and shall go into their camp, and raise up the captains of the army of Assur, and shall run to the tent of Holofernes, but shall not find him: then fear shall fall upon them, and they shall flee before your face.

4Assim vós, e todos os que habitam nos territórios de Israel, os perseguireis e os derrubareis enquanto fogem.

4So ye, and all that inhabit the coast of Israel, shall pursue them, and overthrow them as they go.

5Mas, antes de fazerdes estas coisas, chamai-me Aquior, o amonita, para que veja e reconheça aquele que desprezou a casa de Israel e o enviou a nós como que para a morte.

5But before ye do these things, call me Achior the Ammonite, that he may see and know him that despised the house of Israel, and that sent him to us as it were to his death.

6Então chamaram Aquior da casa de Ozias; e, quando ele chegou e viu a cabeça de Holofernes na mão de um homem, na assembleia do povo, caiu com o rosto em terra, e o seu espírito desfaleceu.

6Then they called Achior out of the house of Ozias; and when he was come, and saw the head of Holofernes in a man’s hand in the assembly of the people, he fell down on his face, and his spirit failed.

7Mas, depois que o reanimaram, prostrou-se aos pés de Judite, e lhe fez reverência, e disse: Bendita és tu em todas as tendas de Judá e em todas as nações, que, ouvindo o teu nome, ficarão espantadas.

7But when they had recovered him, he fell at Judith’s feet, and reverenced her, and said, Blessed art thou in all the tabernacles of Juda, and in all nations, which hearing thy name shall be astonished.

8Agora, pois, conta-me tudo o que fizeste nestes dias. Então Judite lhe declarou, no meio do povo, tudo o que fizera, desde o dia em que saíra até a hora em que lhes falava.

8Now therefore tell me all the things that thou hast done in these days. Then Judith declared unto him in the midst of the people all that she had done, from the day that she went forth until that hour she spake unto them.

9E, quando acabou de falar, o povo gritou em alta voz e fez festa de alegria na sua cidade.

9And when she had left off speaking, the people shouted with a loud voice, and made a joyful noise in their city.

10E, quando Aquior viu tudo o que o Deus de Israel fizera, creu firmemente em Deus, e circuncidou a carne do seu prepúcio, e foi agregado à casa de Israel até o dia de hoje.

10And when Achior had seen all that the God of Israel had done, he believed in God greatly, and circumcised the flesh of his foreskin, and was joined unto the house of Israel unto this day.

11E, logo que amanheceu, penduraram a cabeça de Holofernes no muro, e cada homem tomou as suas armas, e saíram em tropas para as passagens do monte.

11And as soon as the morning arose, they hanged the head of Holofernes upon the wall, and every man took his weapons, and they went forth by bands unto the straits of the mountain.

12Mas, quando os assírios os viram, enviaram mensageiros aos seus chefes, que foram aos seus capitães e tribunos e a cada um dos seus comandantes.

12But when the Assyrians saw them, they sent to their leaders, which came to their captains and tribunes, and to every one of their rulers.

13Assim vieram à tenda de Holofernes e disseram ao que tinha a seu cargo todos os seus bens: Acorda agora o nosso senhor; pois os escravos se atreveram a descer contra nós para a batalha, para serem totalmente destruídos.

13So they came to Holofernes’ tent, and said to him that had the charge of all his things, Waken now our lord: for the slaves have been bold to come down against us to battle, that they may be utterly destroyed.

14Então Bagoas entrou e bateu à porta da tenda; pois pensava que ele tinha dormido com Judite.

14Then went in Bagoas, and knocked at the door of the tent; for he thought that he had slept with Judith.

15Mas, como ninguém respondeu, abriu-a e entrou no quarto, e o achou lançado no chão, morto, e com a cabeça cortada.

15But because none answered, he opened it, and went into the bedchamber, and found him cast upon the floor dead, and his head was taken from him.

16Por isso clamou em alta voz, com choro, e gemidos, e grande clamor, e rasgou as suas vestes.

16Therefore he cried with a loud voice, with weeping, and sighing, and a mighty cry, and rent his garments.

17Depois entrou na tenda onde Judite se hospedava; e, não a achando, saiu correndo para o povo e gritou:

17After he went into the tent where Judith lodged: and when he found her not, he leaped out to the people, and cried,

18Estes escravos agiram traiçoeiramente; uma só mulher dos hebreus trouxe vergonha sobre a casa do rei Nabucodonosor; pois eis que Holofernes jaz no chão sem cabeça.

18These slaves have dealt treacherously; one woman of the Hebrews hath brought shame upon the house of king Nabuchodonosor: for, behold, Holofernes lieth upon the ground without a head.

19Quando os capitães do exército dos assírios ouviram estas palavras, rasgaram as suas túnicas, e o seu ânimo ficou extremamente perturbado, e houve gritaria e grandíssimo alarido em todo o acampamento.

19When the captains of the Assyrians’ army heard these words, they rent their coats and their minds were wonderfully troubled, and there was a cry and a very great noise throughout the camp.
