Judite 16

1Então Judite começou a cantar este cântico de ação de graças diante de todo Israel, e todo o povo cantava depois dela este cântico de louvor.

1Then Judith began to sing this thanksgiving in all Israel, and all the people sang after her this song of praise.

2E Judite disse: Começai ao meu Deus com tamboris, cantai ao meu Senhor com címbalos; entoai-lhe um salmo novo; exaltai-o e invocai o seu nome.

2And Judith said, Begin unto my God with timbrels, sing unto my Lord with cymbals: tune unto him a new psalm: exalt him, and call upon his name.

3Pois Deus destrói as guerras; pois, entre os acampamentos, no meio do povo, livrou-me das mãos dos que me perseguiam.

3For God breaketh the battles: for among the camps in the midst of the people he hath delivered me out of the hands of them that persecuted me.

4Assur veio dos montes do norte, veio com dezenas de milhares do seu exército, cuja multidão entupiu as torrentes, e os seus cavaleiros cobriram as colinas.

4Assur came out of the mountains from the north, he came with ten thousands of his army, the multitude whereof stopped the torrents, and their horsemen have covered the hills.

5Gabou-se de que queimaria os meus territórios, e mataria os meus jovens à espada, e esmagaria contra o chão as crianças de peito, e faria dos meus pequeninos uma presa, e das minhas virgens um despojo.

5He bragged that he would burn up my borders, and kill my young men with the sword, and dash the sucking children against the ground, and make mine infants as a prey, and my virgins as a spoil.

6Mas o Senhor Todo-Poderoso os frustrou pela mão de uma mulher.

6But the Almighty Lord hath disappointed them by the hand of a woman.

7Pois o poderoso não caiu pelas mãos dos jovens, nem os filhos dos titãs o feriram, nem altos gigantes o atacaram; mas Judite, filha de Merari, o enfraqueceu com a formosura do seu rosto.

7For the mighty one did not fall by the young men, neither did the sons of the Titans smite him, nor high giants set upon him: but Judith the daughter of Merari weakened him with the beauty of her countenance.

8Pois despiu as vestes da sua viuvez para a exaltação dos oprimidos de Israel, e ungiu o rosto com unguento, e prendeu os cabelos com um turbante, e tomou uma veste de linho para o seduzir.

8For she put off the garment of her widowhood for the exaltation of those that were oppressed in Israel, and anointed her face with ointment, and bound her hair in a tire, and took a linen garment to deceive him.

9As suas sandálias arrebataram os olhos dele, a sua formosura cativou a sua alma, e a cimitarra lhe atravessou o pescoço.

9Her sandals ravished his eyes, her beauty took his mind prisoner, and the fauchion passed through his neck.

10Os persas tremeram diante da sua ousadia, e os medos se espantaram da sua firmeza.

10The Persians quaked at her boldness, and the Medes were daunted at her hardiness.

11Então os meus aflitos gritaram de alegria, e os meus fracos clamaram em alta voz; mas eles se espantaram; estes levantaram a voz, mas eles foram derrubados.

11Then my afflicted shouted for joy, and my weak ones cried aloud; but they were astonished: these lifted up their voices, but they were overthrown.

12Os filhos das jovens os traspassaram e os feriram como filhos de fugitivos; pereceram na batalha do Senhor.

12The sons of the damsels have pierced them through, and wounded them as fugitives’ children: they perished by the battle of the Lord.

13Cantarei ao Senhor um cântico novo: ó Senhor, tu és grande e glorioso, admirável em força e invencível.

13I will sing unto the Lord a new song: O Lord, thou art great and glorious, wonderful in strength, and invincible.

14Sirvam-te todas as criaturas; pois falaste, e foram feitas; enviaste o teu espírito, e ele as criou; e não há quem possa resistir à tua voz.

14Let all creatures serve thee: for thou spakest, and they were made, thou didst send forth thy spirit, and it created them, and there is none that can resist thy voice.

15Pois os montes serão movidos dos seus fundamentos com as águas, e as rochas se derreterão como cera diante da tua presença; contudo, tu és misericordioso para com os que te temem.

15For the mountains shall be moved from their foundations with the waters, the rocks shall melt as wax at thy presence: yet thou art merciful to them that fear thee.

16Pois todo sacrifício é pouco para te ser cheiro suave, e toda a gordura não basta para o teu holocausto; mas quem teme o Senhor é grande em todo tempo.

16For all sacrifice is too little for a sweet savour unto thee, and all the fat is not sufficient for thy burnt offering: but he that feareth the Lord is great at all times.

17Ai das nações que se levantam contra a minha parentela! O Senhor Todo-Poderoso se vingará delas no dia do juízo, pondo fogo e vermes na sua carne; e elas os sentirão e chorarão para sempre.

17Woe to the nations that rise up against my kindred! the Lord Almighty will take vengeance of them in the day of judgment, in putting fire and worms in their flesh; and they shall feel them, and weep for ever.

18Ora, logo que entraram em Jerusalém, adoraram o Senhor; e, logo que o povo foi purificado, ofereceram os seus holocaustos, e as suas ofertas voluntárias, e os seus presentes.

18Now as soon as they entered into Jerusalem, they worshipped the Lord; and as soon as the people were purified, they offered their burnt offerings, and their free offerings, and their gifts.

19Judite também consagrou todos os pertences de Holofernes, que o povo lhe dera, e deu como oferta ao Senhor o dossel que tirara do seu quarto.

19Judith also dedicated all the stuff of Holofernes, which the people had given her, and gave the canopy, which she had taken out of his bedchamber, for a gift unto the Lord.

20Assim o povo continuou festejando em Jerusalém diante do santuário durante três meses, e Judite ficou com eles.

20So the people continued feasting in Jerusalem before the sanctuary for the space of three months and Judith remained with them.

21Depois deste tempo, cada um voltou para a sua herança, e Judite foi para Betúlia e ficou na sua propriedade, e foi no seu tempo honrada em toda a terra.

21After this time every one returned to his own inheritance, and Judith went to Bethulia, and remained in her own possession, and was in her time honourable in all the country.

22E muitos a desejaram, mas nenhum a conheceu todos os dias da sua vida, depois que Manassés, seu marido, morreu e foi reunido ao seu povo.

22And many desired her, but none knew her all the days of her life, after that Manasses her husband was dead, and was gathered to his people.

23Mas ela crescia cada vez mais em honra, e envelheceu na casa de seu marido, chegando a cento e cinco anos, e deu liberdade à sua criada; e assim morreu em Betúlia; e a sepultaram na caverna de seu marido Manassés.

23But she increased more and more in honour, and waxed old in her husband’s house, being an hundred and five years old, and made her maid free; so she died in Bethulia: and they buried her in the cave of her husband Manasses.

24E a casa de Israel a chorou sete dias; e, antes de morrer, ela distribuiu os seus bens a todos os parentes mais próximos de Manassés, seu marido, e aos parentes mais próximos dela.

24And the house of Israel lamented her seven days: and before she died, she did distribute her goods to all them that were nearest of kindred to Manasses her husband, and to them that were the nearest of her kindred.

25E não houve ninguém que atemorizasse mais os filhos de Israel nos dias de Judite, nem por muito tempo depois da sua morte.

25And there was none that made the children of Israel any more afraid in the days of Judith, nor a long time after her death.
