Fragmentos de Papias e Quadrato 5

1Como dizem os presbíteros, aqueles que forem julgados dignos de uma morada no céu irão para lá, outros desfrutarão das delícias do Paraíso, e outros possuirão o esplendor da cidade; pois em toda parte o Salvador será visto, segundo forem dignos os que O contemplarem. Mas há esta distinção entre a habitação dos que produzem a cem por um, a dos que produzem a sessenta por um e a dos que produzem a trinta por um; pois os primeiros serão arrebatados aos céus, a segunda classe habitará no Paraíso, e a última habitará na cidade;

1As the presbyters say, then those who are deemed worthy of an abode in heaven shall go there, others shall enjoy the delights of Paradise, and others shall possess the splendour of the city; for everywhere the Saviour will be seen, according as they shall be worthy who see Him. But that there is this distinction between the habitation of those who produce an hundred-fold, and that of those who produce sixty-fold, and that of those who produce thirty-fold; for the first will be taken up into the heavens, the second class will dwell in Paradise, and the last will inhabit the city;

2e que por esta causa disse o Senhor: «Na casa de meu Pai há muitas moradas»; pois todas as coisas pertencem a Deus, que a todos provê com uma habitação adequada, assim como diz a Sua palavra, que uma porção é concedida a todos pelo Pai, segundo cada um é ou será digno. E este é o leito no qual reclinarão os que banqueteiam, sendo convidados para as bodas. Os presbíteros, discípulos dos apóstolos, afirmam que esta é a gradação e a ordem dos que são salvos, e que avançam por degraus desta natureza; e que, além disso, sobem pelo Espírito até o Filho, e pelo Filho até o Pai; e que no devido tempo o Filho entregará a Sua obra ao Pai, conforme foi dito pelo apóstolo: «Porque convém que reine até que haja posto todos os inimigos debaixo de seus pés. O último inimigo a ser destruído é a morte». Pois nos tempos do reino o homem justo que está sobre a terra se esquecerá de morrer. «Mas, quando diz que todas as coisas Lhe estão sujeitas, claro está que se excetua Aquele que Lhe sujeitou todas as coisas. E, quando todas as coisas Lhe estiverem sujeitas, então também o mesmo Filho se sujeitará Àquele que todas as coisas Lhe sujeitou, para que Deus seja tudo em todos».

2and that on this account the Lord said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions:” for all things belong to God, who supplies all with a suitable dwelling-place, even as His word says, that a share is given to all by the Father, according as each one is or shall be worthy. And this is the couch in which they shall recline who feast, being invited to the wedding. The presbyters, the disciples of the apostles, say that this is the gradation and arrangement of those who are saved, and that they advance through steps of this nature; and that, moreover, they ascend through the Spirit to the Son, and through the Son to the Father; and that in due time the Son will yield up His work to the Father, even as it is said by the apostle, “For He must reign till He hath put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” For in the times of the kingdom the just man who is on the earth shall forget to die. “But when He saith all things are put under Him, it is manifest that He is excepted which did put all things under Him. And when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also Himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.”
