Protoevangelho de Tiago 11

1E tomou o cântaro e saiu para enchê-lo de água.

1And she took the pitcher, and went out to fill it with water.

2E eis uma voz que dizia: Salve, tu que recebeste graça; o Senhor é contigo; bendita és tu entre as mulheres!

2And, behold, a voice saying: Hail, thou who hast received grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women!

3E olhou em redor, à direita e à esquerda, para ver de onde vinha essa voz.

3And she looked round, on the right hand and on the left, to see whence this voice came.

4E foi-se, tremendo, para a sua casa, e pôs o cântaro no chão; e, tomando o púrpura, sentou-se em seu assento e o fiou.

4And she went away, trembling, to her house, and put down the pitcher; and taking the purple, she sat down on her seat, and drew it out.

5E eis que um anjo do Senhor se pôs diante dela, dizendo: Não temas, Maria; pois achaste graça diante do Senhor de todos, e conceberás, segundo a sua palavra.

5And, behold, an angel of the Lord stood before her, saying: Fear not, Mary; for thou hast found grace before the Lord of all, and thou shalt conceive, according to His word.

6E ela, ouvindo, raciocinava consigo mesma, dizendo: Conceberei eu do Senhor, o Deus vivo? e darei à luz como toda mulher dá à luz?

6And she hearing, reasoned with herself, saying: Shall I conceive by the Lord, the living God? and shall I bring forth as every woman brings forth?

7E o anjo do Senhor disse: Não assim, Maria; pois o poder do Senhor te cobrirá com a sua sombra: por isso também o santo que de ti nascer será chamado Filho do Altíssimo.

7And the angel of the Lord said: Not so, Mary; for the power of the Lord shall overshadow thee: wherefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of the Most High.

8E chamarás o seu nome Jesus, pois ele salvará o seu povo dos seus pecados.

8And thou shalt call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.

9E Maria disse: Eis a serva do Senhor diante da sua face: faça-se em mim segundo a tua palavra.

9And Mary said: Behold, the servant of the Lord before His face: let it be unto me according to thy word.
