Protoevangelho de Tiago 14

1E José ficou muito temeroso e retirou-se dela, e considerou o que faria a respeito dela.

1And Joseph was greatly afraid, and retired from her, and considered what he should do in regard to her.

2E José disse: Se ocultar o pecado dela, vejo-me combatendo contra a lei do Senhor; e se a expuser aos filhos de Israel, temo que o que está nela seja de um anjo, e eu seja achado entregando sangue inocente à condenação da morte.

2And Joseph said: If I conceal her sin, I find myself fighting against the law of the Lord; and if I expose her to the sons of Israel, I am afraid lest that which is in her be from an angel, and I shall be found giving up innocent blood to the doom of death.

3Que farei então com ela?

3What then shall I do with her?

4Deixá-la-ei secretamente.

4I will put her away from me secretly.

5E a noite veio sobre ele; e eis que um anjo do Senhor lhe aparece em sonho, dizendo: Não temas por esta donzela, pois o que está nela é do Espírito Santo; e ela dará à luz um Filho, e chamarás o seu nome Jesus, pois ele salvará o seu povo dos seus pecados.

5And night came upon him; and, behold, an angel of the Lord appears to him in a dream, saying: Be not afraid for this maiden, for that which is in her is of the Holy Spirit; and she will bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.

6E José levantou-se do sono e glorificou o Deus de Israel, que lhe tinha dado essa graça; e guardou-a consigo.

6And Joseph arose from sleep, and glorified the God of Israel, who had given him this grace; and he kept her.
