Protoevangelho de Tiago 18

1E achou ali uma gruta e conduziu-a para dentro dela; e, deixando seus dois filhos junto dela, saiu a procurar uma parteira na região de Belém.

1And he found a cave there, and led her into it; and leaving his two sons beside her, he went out to seek a widwife in the district of Bethlehem.

2E eu, José, caminhava e não caminhava; e olhei para o céu e vi o céu pasmado; e olhei para o polo dos céus e vi-o parado, e as aves do ar imóveis.

2And I Joseph was walking, and was not walking; and I looked up into the sky, and saw the sky astonished; and I looked up to the pole of the heavens, and saw it standing, and the birds of the air keeping still.

3E olhei para a terra e vi uma gamela posta, e trabalhadores reclinados: e as suas mãos estavam na gamela.

3And I looked down upon the earth, and saw a trough lying, and work-people reclining: and their hands were in the trough.

4E os que comiam não comiam, e os que se levantavam não levavam nada, e os que levavam algo à boca não levavam; mas os rostos de todos olhavam para cima.

4And those that were eating did not eat, and those that were rising did not carry it up, and those that were conveying anything to their mouths did not convey it; but the faces of all were looking upwards.

5E vi as ovelhas andando, e as ovelhas pararam; e o pastor levantou a mão para feri-las, e a sua mão ficou erguida.

5And I saw the sheep walking, and the sheep stood still; and the shepherd raised his hand to strike them, and his hand remained up.

6E olhei para a corrente do rio e vi as bocas dos cabritos pousadas sobre a água e sem beber, e todas as coisas num instante foram desviadas do seu curso.

6And I looked upon the current of the river, and I saw the mouths of the kids resting on the water and not drinking, and all things in a moment were driven from their course.
