Protoevangelho de Tiago 21

1E eis que José estava pronto para ir à Judeia.

1And, behold, Joseph was ready to go into Judæa.

2E houve grande alvoroço em Belém da Judeia, pois vieram magos, dizendo: Onde está aquele que nasceu rei dos judeus? porque vimos a sua estrela no oriente e viemos adorá-lo.

2And there was a great commotion in Bethlehem of Judæa, for Magi came, saying: Where is he that is born king of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to worship him.

3E quando Herodes ouviu, ficou muito perturbado e enviou oficiais aos magos.

3And when Herod heard, he was much disturbed, and sent officers to the Magi.

4E mandou chamar os sacerdotes e os interrogou, dizendo: Que está escrito a respeito do Cristo? onde ele deve nascer?

4And he sent for the priests, and examined them, saying: How is it written about the Christ? where is He to be born?

5E eles disseram: Em Belém da Judeia, pois assim está escrito.

5And they said: In Bethlehem of Judæa, for so it is written.

6E despediu-os. E interrogou os magos, dizendo-lhes: Que sinal vistes com respeito ao rei que nasceu?

6And he sent them away. And he examined the Magi, saying to them: What sign have you seen in reference to the king that has been born?

7E os magos disseram: Vimos uma estrela de grande tamanho brilhando entre estas estrelas e obscurecendo a luz delas, de modo que as estrelas não apareciam; e assim soubemos que nasceu um rei para Israel, e viemos adorá-lo.

7And the Magi said: We have seen a star of great size shining among these stars, and obscuring their light, so that the stars did not appear; and we thus knew that a king has been born to Israel, and we have come to worship him.

8E Herodes disse: Ide e procurai-o; e se o achardes, avisai-me, para que também eu vá adorá-lo.

8And Herod said: Go and seek him; and if you find him, let me know, in order that I also may go and worship him.

9E os magos saíram. E eis que a estrela que tinham visto no oriente ia adiante deles até que chegaram à gruta, e parou sobre o alto da gruta.

9And the Magi went out. And, behold, the star which they had seen in the east went before them until they came to the cave, and it stood over the top of the cave.

10E os magos viram o menino com sua mãe Maria; e tiraram da sua bolsa ouro, e incenso, e mirra.

10And the Magi saw the infant with His mother Mary; and they brought forth from their bag gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

11E, avisados pelo anjo para não irem à Judeia, foram para a sua terra por outro caminho.

11And having been warned by the angel not to go into Judæa, they went into their own country by another road.
