Protoevangelho de Tiago 24

1Mas na hora da saudação os sacerdotes foram, e Zacarias não saiu ao encontro deles com a bênção, conforme o seu costume.

1But at the hour of the salutation the priests went away, and Zacharias did not come forth to meet them with a blessing, according to his custom.

2E os sacerdotes ficaram esperando Zacarias, para o saudar na oração e glorificar o Altíssimo.

2And the priests stood waiting for Zacharias to salute him at the prayer, and to glorify the Most High.

3E como ele ainda demorasse, todos tiveram medo.

3And he still delaying, they were all afraid.

4Mas um deles ousou entrar, e viu sangue coagulado junto ao altar; e ouviu uma voz que dizia: Zacarias foi assassinado, e o seu sangue não será enxugado até que venha o seu vingador.

4But one of them ventured to go in, and he saw clotted blood beside the altar; and he heard a voice saying: Zacharias has been murdered, and his blood shall not be wiped up until his avenger come.

5E ouvindo essa palavra, teve medo, e saiu e contou-o aos sacerdotes.

5And hearing this saying, he was afraid, and went out and told it to the priests.

6E eles ousaram entrar e viram o que tinha acontecido; e o forro entalhado do templo emitiu um lamento, e rasgaram as suas vestes de alto a baixo.

6And they ventured in, and saw what had happened; and the fretwork of the temple made a wailing noise, and they rent their clothes from the top even to the bottom.

7E não acharam o seu corpo, mas acharam o seu sangue transformado em pedra.

7And they found not his body, but they found his blood turned into stone.

8E tiveram medo, e saíram e relataram ao povo que Zacarias tinha sido assassinado.

8And they were afraid, and went out and reported to the people that Zacharias had been murdered.

9E todas as tribos do povo ouviram, e o prantearam e lamentaram por ele três dias e três noites.

9And all the tribes of the people heard, and mourned, and lamented for him three days and three nights.

10E depois dos três dias, os sacerdotes consultaram-se sobre quem deveriam pôr em seu lugar; e a sorte caiu sobre Simeão.

10And after the three days, the priests consulted as to whom they should put in his place; and the lot fell upon Simeon.

11Pois foi ele quem fora avisado pelo Espírito Santo de que não veria a morte até ver o Cristo na carne.

11For it was he who had been warned by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death until he should see the Christ in the flesh.

12E eu, Tiago, que escrevi esta história em Jerusalém, tendo surgido um alvoroço quando Herodes morreu, retirei-me para o deserto até que cessou o alvoroço em Jerusalém, glorificando o Senhor Deus, que me tinha dado o dom e a sabedoria para escrever esta história.

12And I James that wrote this history in Jerusalem, a commotion having arisen when Herod died, withdrew myself to the wilderness until the commotion in Jerusalem ceased, glorifying the Lord God, who had given me the gift and the wisdom to write this history.

13E a graça estará com os que temem a nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, a quem seja a glória pelos séculos dos séculos.

13And grace shall be with them that fear our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory to ages of ages.

14Amém.
