Protoevangelho de Tiago 3

1E, olhando para o céu, viu um ninho de pardais no loureiro, e fez uma lamentação dentro de si, dizendo: Ai! quem me gerou? e que ventre me produziu? porque me tornei uma maldição diante dos filhos de Israel, e fui coberta de opróbrio, e expulsaram-me, com escárnio, do templo do Senhor.

1And gazing towards the heaven, she saw a sparrow's nest in the laurel, and made a lamentation in herself, saying: Alas! who begot me? and what womb produced me? because I have become a curse in the presence of the sons of Israel, and I have been reproached, and they have driven me in derision out of the temple of the Lord.

2Ai! a que fui comparada?

2Alas! to what have I been likened?

3Não sou como as aves do céu, porque até as aves do céu são fecundas diante de ti, ó Senhor.

3I am not like the fowls of the heaven, because even the fowls of the heaven are productive before Thee, O Lord.

4Alas! to what have I been likened?

5Não sou como os animais da terra, porque até os animais da terra são fecundos diante de ti, ó Senhor.

5I am not like the beasts of the earth, because even the beasts of the earth are productive before Thee, O Lord.

6Ai! a que fui comparada?

6Alas! to what have I been likened?

7Não sou como estas águas, porque até estas águas são fecundas diante de ti, ó Senhor.

7I am not like these waters, because even these waters are productive before Thee, O Lord.

8Ai! a que fui comparada?

8Alas! to what have I been likened?

9Não sou como esta terra, porque até a terra produz os seus frutos a seu tempo e te bendiz, ó Senhor.

9I am not like this earth, because even the earth bringeth forth its fruits in season, and blesseth Thee, O Lord.
