Vidas dos Profetas 7

1Isaías, o profeta, nasceu em Jerusalém, da tribo de Judá; e morreu às mãos de Manassés, rei de Judá, serrado em dois, e foi posto debaixo do carvalho de Rogel, junto à passagem das águas que o rei Ezequias destruiu, obstruindo-as.

1Isaiah the prophet was born in Jerusalem, of the tribe of Judah; and he died at the hands of Manasseh, king of Judah, sawn in two, and was laid beneath the oak of Rogel, hard by the passage of the waters which Hezekiah the king destroyed by blocking them up.

2E Deus operou o prodígio de Siloé por causa do profeta; pois, antes de morrer, desfalecendo, orou para beber água, e logo lhe foi enviada dali água viva.

2And God wrought the wonder of Siloam for the sake of the prophet; for before he died, growing faint, he prayed to drink water, and at once living water was sent to him from it.

3Por isso o nome foi chamado Siloé, que se interpreta “enviado”.

3For this reason the name was called Siloam, which is interpreted "sent."

4E no tempo do rei Ezequias, antes que ele fizesse os canais e os tanques, à oração do profeta Isaías saiu um pouco de água, pois o povo estava encerrado pelos estrangeiros, e para que a cidade não fosse destruída por não ter água.

4And in the time of Hezekiah the king, before he made the trenches and the pools, at the prayer of the prophet Isaiah a little water came forth, for the people were shut in by the foreigners, and lest the city be destroyed as having no water.

5Pois os inimigos perguntavam de onde bebiam; porque não sabiam.

5For the enemies kept asking whence they drank; for they did not know.

6Pois, tendo a cidade em seu poder, acampavam junto a Siloé; sempre que, portanto, os judeus saíam para tirar água, a água lhes saía, e eles a tiravam, mas os estrangeiros não a achavam.

6For having the city in their power, they encamped beside Siloam; whenever, therefore, the Jews came out to draw, water came forth for them, and they drew, but the foreigners did not find it.

7Pois a água fugia.

7For the water fled.

8Por isso, até o dia de hoje ela brota de repente, para que o mistério seja mostrado.

8Wherefore even to this day it comes forth suddenly, that the mystery may be shown.

9E porque isto aconteceu por meio de Isaías, por memória o povo também o sepultou perto dali, com cuidado e com honra, para que, pelas suas orações, tivessem até o fim o gozo da água.

9And because this came to pass through Isaiah, for the sake of remembrance the people also buried him nearby, carefully and with honor, that through his prayers they might have the enjoyment of the water to the end.

10Pois também lhes foi dado um oráculo a respeito dele.

10For an oracle also was given them concerning him.

11E o túmulo de Isaías, o profeta, fica junto ao túmulo dos reis, atrás do túmulo dos sacerdotes, do lado meridional.

11And the tomb of Isaiah the prophet is next to the tomb of the kings, behind the tomb of the priests, on the southern side.

12Pois Salomão, ao edificar Jerusalém, fez os túmulos dos reis, tendo Davi traçado o desenho deles; e fica a leste de Sião, tendo uma entrada desde Gabaot, a vinte estádios de distância da cidade.

12For Solomon, when building Jerusalem, made the tombs of the kings, David having marked them out; and it is to the east of Zion, having an entrance from Gabaoth, twenty stadia distant from the city.

13E fez uma passagem tortuosa, intricada e insuspeitada; e é desconhecida da maioria até o dia de hoje.

13And he made a winding, intricate, unsuspected passage; and it is unknown to the many even to this day.
