Vidas dos Profetas 8

1Jeremias, o profeta, era de Anatote, e em Tafnas do Egito foi apedrejado pelo povo e morreu.

1Jeremiah the prophet was from Anathoth, and in Taphnai of Egypt he was stoned by the people and died.

2E jaz no lugar da residência do faraó, porque os egípcios o glorificaram, tendo sido beneficiados por ele.

2And he lies in the place of Pharaoh's residence, because the Egyptians glorified him, having been benefited by him.

3Pois áspides e as feras das águas, a que os egípcios chamam Nefote e os gregos crocodilos, os matavam; e, quando o profeta Jeremias orou, o furor das áspides foi impedido naquela terra, e do mesmo modo a emboscada das feras no rio.

3For asps, and the beasts of the waters, which the Egyptians call Nephoth, and the Greeks crocodiles, were killing them; and when the prophet Jeremiah prayed, the fury of the asps was hindered from that land, and likewise the ambush of the beasts from the river.

4E todos os fiéis, até o dia de hoje, oram naquele lugar e, tomando dele pó, curam as mordeduras das áspides; e afugentam as feras da água.

4And all who are faithful, to this day, pray in that place, and taking dust from it they heal the bites of asps; and they drive away the beasts of the water.

5Este profeta deu um sinal aos sacerdotes do Egito, dizendo que todos os seus ídolos seriam abalados e todas as coisas feitas por mãos cairiam, quando uma virgem em trabalho de parto, com um infante de aspecto divino, pusesse o pé no Egito; o que de fato lhes aconteceu.

5This prophet gave a sign to the priests of Egypt, saying that all their idols must be shaken, and all things made by hands must fall down, when a virgin in childbirth, with a godlike infant, should set foot in Egypt; which indeed came to pass for them.

6Antes da tomada do templo, este profeta arrebatou a arca da lei e tudo o que nela havia, e fez que fossem engolidos por uma rocha; e disse aos sacerdotes do povo e aos anciãos ali presentes: “O Senhor partiu do Sinai para os céus e voltará em santo poder.

6Before the capture of the temple this prophet seized the ark of the law and all that was in it, and caused them to be swallowed up in a rock; and he said to the priests of the people and to the elders standing by: "The Lord has gone away from Sinai into the heavens, and will come again in holy power.

7E este será o sinal da sua vinda: quando todas as nações adorarem um pedaço de madeira.”

7And this shall be the sign of his coming, when all the nations shall worship a piece of wood."

8E lhes disse que nenhum dos sacerdotes ou dos profetas jamais tornaria a desenrolar esta arca, exceto Moisés, o escolhido de Deus; e as tábuas que estão nela ninguém as desdobrará, exceto Arão.

8And he said to them that no one of the priests or prophets should ever again unroll this ark, except Moses, the chosen of God; and the tablets in it no one shall unfold, except Aaron.

9“E na ressurreição a arca será a primeira a levantar-se e sairá da rocha e será posta sobre o monte Sinai; e todos os santos se reunirão a ela, ali aguardando o Senhor, e fugindo do inimigo que o quer destruir.”

9"And at the resurrection the ark shall be the first to arise, and shall come forth from the rock, and shall be set upon Mount Sinai; and all the saints shall be gathered to it, there awaiting the Lord, and fleeing the enemy who wishes to destroy him."

10E selou a rocha com o seu dedo, com o nome do Senhor; e a marca ficou como uma gravação em ferro.

10And he sealed the rock with his finger with the name of the Lord; and the impression became like an engraving in iron.

11E uma nuvem cobriu a rocha, e ninguém percebe aquele lugar, nem alguém é capaz de ler o nome até este dia e até a consumação deste século.

11And a cloud covered the rock, and no one perceives that place, nor is anyone able to read the name until this day and until the consummation of this age.

12E a rocha está no deserto, onde a arca primeiro se fez, entre os montes em que jazem Moisés e Arão; e de noite uma nuvem como fogo aparece naquele lugar segundo o antigo modelo, porque a glória de Deus não cessará da sua lei.

12And the rock is in the wilderness, where the ark first came to be, between the mountains in which Moses and Aaron lie; and by night a cloud like fire appears in that place after the ancient pattern, because the glory of God shall not cease from his law.
