Haggai the prophet: while still young he returned from Babylon to Jerusalem, and prophesied openly concerning the return of the people, and saw the building of the temple of Jerusalem; and he himself sang there first "Alleluia," which is interpreted, "Let us praise the living God"; "Amen," which is, "So be it, so be it."

2There, then, he died, and was buried near the priests with honor; wherefore we say "Alleluia," which is a hymn of Haggai and of Zechariah.
