Joad the prophet was born in Samaria; this is he whom the lion struck on the road, and he died, because he rebuked Jeroboam for his golden heifers, which he had made, when also he cursed the sacrifice of Jeroboam.
And he stretched out his hand to do him harm, and the hand of Jeroboam withered.
And after these things he was deceived by the false prophet, and was compelled to eat bread and drink water.
And as he went out, the lion struck him, and did not harm his ass.
And he was buried in Bethel, near the false prophet.
And afterward the false prophet, as he lay dying, made the priests swear, when they should bury him with Joad the prophet, saying: "Because I deceived him, and at the resurrection we shall exact justice."
And both lie in one tomb.
